Because you lack the ability to ascertain the very nature that is established by valid cognition. It is also unreasonable to say that appearing as a real entity is merely because the nature of suchness appears as being non-different from it, because even if it is not that kind of nature, sounds, shadows, and so on will appear. It is also wrong to say that this appearance is an illusion, because even for an appearance that is desired to appear as true, there is no reason for truth. If it is said that the very act of doing is the reason for truth, that is not so, because why is the very act of the effect the very act of the thing? As stated above, in this way, the nature that is unreasonable in the ultimate sense, because it has been admitted in the conventional sense, is not something to be understood. If everything is false, then places and times, etc., will become uncertain. If it is admitted that there is no cause, then this fault will occur. Because if it is not examined by the unbearable detailed analysis, then depending on the pleasing prior cause, the subsequent results, such as time and place, etc., which are determined separately, will arise in this way. Therefore, in the conventional sense, because there is no cause, rabbit horns, etc., are not produced. If the reason is the same, then why not deny what is seen? Because this would lead to contradiction with direct perception and so on. If so, then this itself is not a reason, because there may be harm. That is not so, because neither has harm been admitted as being the same as the reality of reason, nor has the harm seen as being unreasonable been admitted, because that is the reason. Or, the second view is accepted, that multiple causes produce multiple effects. Because the difference in the nature of the causes is closely connected to the difference in the nature of the effects, the difference in the very nature of the effect achieved by the action of the cause is unmixed. For example, the similar immediately preceding condition of consciousness will become the nature of eye consciousness. From the eye faculty,

The nature of cognition is individually determined as being able to grasp form. From the perspective of the object, it transforms only into a nature similar to it. Thus, in reality, although the results of undifferentiated nature are not different, the different natures of the causes transform only into different natures. If it is thought that from different causes, there is no difference in their results, this is not reasonable. Because if one admits that the nature of cognition and so on are mutually different, then consciousness will become multiple, because it is not different from the nature of cognition and so on, just like the own nature of the nature of cognition and so on. If it is thought that the non-difference from those (the nature of cognition and so on) is not established, then consciousness itself will not become multiple. If one admits that it is different from those (the nature of cognition and so on), then consciousness will become causeless, because the function of the cause is that the nature of cognition and so on, other than consciousness, are placed. In that case, the fault of "becoming permanent or non-existent" will occur. If, fearing the faults mentioned above, one does not admit difference, then the nature of cognition and so on will become mutually non-different, because it is not other than one consciousness, just like the own nature of consciousness. Therefore, examining the different objects of the function of the cause is meaningless, because it will be touched by the previously mentioned fault of "from eyes and so on of different nature." If one sees that the nature of the result is not multiple of the nature of cognition and so on, possessing elimination, truly arising, establishing different dharmas through discrimination, from the perspective of attending to the nature of cognition, it is the nature of cognition and so on, in a way that corresponds to the cause, through the difference of the dharmas of the nature of cognition and so on, it is imputed by discriminating different objects. Because that is also non-existent, so if it is thought that because it is not different from those, it is multiple consciousness itself, and because it is not other than one consciousness, so those are non-different, both of these arguments are not established as reasons. If that is really the case, then those differences are merely combined by discrimination, then...
