It is also said that with a mind different from the aforementioned mind, one will not realize perfect enlightenment, because it is impossible. If so, does it mean that it is impossible to attain enlightenment in any case? (The Buddha) said "Bodhisattva Mahasattva" etc., intending to show that the moments that occur one after another, taking the example of a lamp, focus on indicating proximity to the same object. Therefore, relying on the initial consciousness, in which the accomplishment of enlightenment seems to be only a small part. Because what arises subsequently is the later consciousness, which manifests a meaning that is more excellent than the previous one, therefore, these two bodhicittas enable the Bodhisattva to realize the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. As mentioned above, only through the example of the lamp, one should also understand the eight profound dharmata. It is said: The mind realizes enlightenment through the former, The darkness of kinds is not the latter, With the metaphor of the lamp, The eight profound dharmata. What was mentioned incidentally has been explained. Now, in order to reveal the characteristics of non-retrogression of the Bodhisattva who abides on the path of meditation, and in order to reveal where the eight profound dharmas exist, first, the profound arising is to be revealed. World Honored One, Subhuti, even the initial bodhicitta, it is considered unreasonable to realize enlightenment in two moments in the conventional truth. Subhuti, what do you think? etc. From where can enlightenment be recognized in two moments? Is it that the mind abides in the previous moment and has ceased, and then arises again in the second moment in the conventional truth, or does it disappear without a sequel, because it is impossible to arise again? World Honored One, it is not so. Because there is no result without a cause, the function of the latter moment is also related to the function of the first moment through transmission, therefore, it can be said that enlightenment can be attained through two moments, even in the conventional truth, the function of the first moment is not the main one.

O is a concluding particle. Therefore, it is said that it does not refer to the previous and subsequent moments, nor does it not depend on them, and a special meaning will not arise, which is called profound arising. The meaning of profound cessation is, Subhuti, what do you think? The Blessed One said, is whatever arises subject to cessation? What arises from that is the past, meaning that existing things disappear. In fact, because it is the nature of cessation, it is said to be the law of cessation. Cessation is emptiness, and because this dharma exists here, it is the law of cessation, meaning that it has such a nature. The Blessed One said, does it cease in the second moment? Subhuti, what do you think, will whatever is subject to cessation cease? Because its nature is that it is already controlled by cessation at the moment of arising, so what else will cease? Thinking like this, Subhuti replied, Blessed One, it is not like that. The Blessed One asked, does the future have the law of cessation? Subhuti, what do you think? Will whatever has not arisen become the law of cessation? He replied, no. Because destruction is the nature of the change of things, what has not arisen is not the law of cessation. The Blessed One asked, does it have cessation in another moment? Subhuti, what do you think? Will whatever is not the law of cessation cease? He replied, no. Because there is no first moment, it is separated from cessation in the second moment, so it will not cease in another moment. If that is the case, then will what is arising now cease? The Blessed One said, Subhuti, what do you think? Will whatever does not arise and is not the law of cessation cease? For what is arising now, because other arising is meaningless, it is the law of non-arising. There is no destruction when it exists, so it is not the law of cessation. He replied, it is not like that, meaning that it is far from the nature of one and many. If that is the case, then will nothing cease?
