Dwelling in the palm of the hand is the characteristic of non-retrogression. Thus it is said. Because it is the nature of Suchness, temporarily showing turning away from form etc., is the request to the Blessed One, "Non-retrogressing Bodhisattva Mahasattva" etc. Among them, the aspects are those included in the side of the antidote. The signs are the marks that dwell in oneself. The marks belong to what is needed for enjoyment. Alternatively, the aspects are the distinctions of bodily joy, such as goosebumps and tears. The signs are the distinctions of speech, such as joyful prayers. The marks are the distinctions of practice, such as listening, holding, reading, and offering. Alternatively, these words are explanations of the preceding ones. Blessed One, how shall I know that I am a non-retrogressing Bodhisattva Mahasattva? This asks for the sign of realization without confusion. The answer is, Subhuti, whatever is the ground of individual beings, etc. The ground of Suchness means that since all grounds are like illusions, it is said, "Suchness, all these are," etc. Non-conceptual, is non-conceptual, which should be determined by reason and scripture, because it is impossible to do otherwise, so combine in order. From that, it means from the mandala of samsara and nirvana. This is Suchness, meaning that only by turning away from form etc., this is Suchness. It is true as it is, the other is delusion, so thinking and listening, generate faith and merge into it, not showing attachment to things, not speaking nonsense arbitrarily, only excellently showing the meaning of illusion, therefore speak meaningful words, not meaningless words. When striving to cultivate the nature of Dharma, do not look at what others have done or not done. Should be held, meaning: From the collection of causes arises the effect, whatever is inferred from it, because it does not depend on other meanings, that is the nature.

Thus it is declared. By the very scripture called "Thus it is declared," it should be taken as certain by subsequent inference. To show that doubt is exhausted by gaining faith after knowing, it is said, "Subhuti, furthermore," and so on. "Not looking at the face" means not looking at the face because one is satisfied with the thought of existence, such as fully knowing the suchness that should be known. "Not relying on other gods" means not making the nature of refuge, etc., one's own. With the accomplishment of aspiration, the eight unfree states are exhausted, and it is said, "Subhuti, again," and so on. "Not being born in the lower realms" means not being reborn in hells, hungry ghosts, and animals, which is explicitly stated. This is a close example, so it should also include not being reborn in places of wrong views, places where the Buddha's teachings are not heard, and border regions. "Also, not taking the substance of women" means that since the substance of women is said to be prohibited, it should be understood that one will not be transformed into a being with incomplete faculties, a fool, or a mute. Furthermore, the word "again" indicates the final word that one will not be reborn in long-life gods, etc. The meaning of combining oneself and others with virtuous Dharma by having compassion is expressed by saying, "Subhuti, furthermore," and so on. Among them, killing is causing the life of another to end. Taking what is not given is moving another's property from its place in a stealing manner. Sexual misconduct is going forth manifestly to non-female limbs, etc. Grain alcohol and adulterated alcohol are places of heedlessness: some are made with tree bark and brown sugar, others are made from honey, and three are made by mixing residue and water; the wise should know them as alcohol. Brown sugar, emblic myrobalan, and Dhataki mixed with water should be known as adulterated alcohol. Whatever is eaten or drunk that causes intoxication is called intoxication. These three are the opponents of white Dharma, therefore they are called places of heedlessness, and they also come from actions. Lying is the word of speaking what is not true. Slander is the word of separating others. Harsh speech is speaking what is unpleasant. Idle talk is all afflictions.
