At that time, the Blessed One, through his instructions to Subhuti, briefly expounded the Prajnaparamita. Here, the concise meaning of the words is this: Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, through the distinction of realizing all aspects of the Bodhicitta as they are, through the order of generating wisdom such as hearing in whatever way is appropriate, will truly attain the three Prajnaparamitas. Similarly, beginning with the Prajnaparamita itself, which is related to those, in order to explain it extensively, Subhuti, manifest the four kinds of perfect knowledge individually. In that way, the Blessed One gave instructions to the venerable and long-lived Subhuti. In a broader sense: First, by the power of lineage, the seed of compassion is awakened, and by the perfection of practice and intention, the Bodhicitta is fully embraced. In this way, through the power of lineage and so on, and by truly taking the Bodhisattva vows and so on, generate the Bodhicitta with emptiness and compassion as its essence, and after aspiring to become a fully enlightened Buddha, strive to teach the Dharma through the three vehicles for the benefit of others as appropriate. To be perfected through perfect practice is the Bodhi of perfect and complete enlightenment aimed at the benefit of others, which has the characteristic of desire, including cause and effect. Just as one knows the difference between the desire to begin and the act of going, similarly, the wise should gradually understand the difference between these two. In this way, Bodhicitta is generated by the nature of aspiration and entry.

Having appeared from sinking in the ocean of suffering (of beings), if he has the good intention of saving (beings), and strives for the meaning of having the characteristic of desiring the Dharma, then, because he wants to attain Buddhahood, he generates Bodhicitta, therefore here the cause and effect are shown. Like this, in order to know that all the virtuous Dharmas of the Bodhisattva who desires and strives will increase, this is also because it relies on the proximate cause, so there is no fault. Or, aspiration is striving, it is wanting to attain perfect complete enlightenment, and the generation of mind that accompanies it is expressed by its sound, because striving is the main thing, so it is the occasion for generating the mind. Like this, it is reasonable that for Bodhisattvas, that mind with aspiration arises. Then, what is the nature of what is desired? For what purpose is the mind generated? What is perfect complete enlightenment? And, what are the other purposes? It should be told as it is in the "Arya Manjushri Real Name Sutra". Among them, the brief explanation of perfect complete enlightenment is: Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva wants to attain perfect complete enlightenment of all Dharmas in all ways, he should respect the Prajnaparamita, this is what (the Buddha) said. Among them, the detailed explanation of this is: Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the Prajnaparamita in a non-abiding way, because he does not cling to the giver, the object of giving, and the receiver, he perfects the Paramita of giving in a non-abandoning way, this is what (the Buddha) said. Among them, the summary explanation of other purposes is: Bodhisattva Mahasattva in the ten directions, in each direction there are worlds as many as the sands of the Ganges, if he wants to lead all the beings there into the realm of Nirvana without remainder, he should study the Prajnaparamita, this is what (the Buddha) said. The detailed explanation of this is: Bodhisattva

For miserly beings, (they) want to extremely ridicule generosity; for those with broken precepts, (they) want to extremely ridicule discipline; for those with strong anger, (they) want to extremely ridicule patience. Therefore, one should study the Prajnaparamita. Such are the meanings of what was said. It is also said: The mind of awakening is for the sake of others, desiring perfect and complete enlightenment. That and that, as in the sutras, are spoken of through the gates of brevity and expansion. Thus it is said. Among them, the detailed classifications are as follows: Among them, the first mind of awakening of the Bodhisattvas, possessing aspiration, is like the earth, because it is the basis for greatly increasing all dharmas, the accumulation of manifest and complete enlightenment in all ways. Second, possessing intention is like pure gold, because the intention of benefiting and bringing happiness in this life and the next, as taught by the six paramitas, will not change until perfect enlightenment. It is called intention because of the way it abides. Third, possessing higher intention is like the waxing moon of the white side, because all auspicious days will increase from above. It is in the manner of higher intention. These three, with small, medium, and large, are included in the path of accumulation for beginners. Fourth, possessing effort is like fire, because the effort of the three omniscient ones increases from above, just as fire becomes special with other wood, because it is the most supreme effort, hence in the manner of extreme effort. This is included in the path of preparation for entering the first ground, and is related to the ground of adhimukti-caryā. Fifth, possessing the paramita of generosity is like a great treasure, because with inexhaustible enjoyment, it truly satisfies immeasurable beings in all ways, yet there is no end. Sixth, possessing the paramita of discipline is like a source of jewels, because by the nature of the support, all jewel-like qualities arise from it.
