The instruction on knowing things like that is: It is said, "Minds that are defiled from all sides," and so on. Because being defiled from all sides is not being defiled from all sides, because it is merely illusion. In reality, the nature of afflictions, actions, and births, is not defiled from all sides by those who are defiled from all sides, and there are no afflictions. But it is defiled and destroyed from all sides by the power of perversion. The so-called "without designation" refers to entering into the determination of each individual. The instruction on knowing the mind free from desire, etc., is: It is said, "Those minds that are not defiled from all sides," and so on. The so-called "naturally luminous" means that in the state of ordinary beings, it arises from the cause of delusion, and therefore, even the impure mind that has become like that, if its own nature is examined by valid cognition, then by relying on realizing the nature of its own essence, such as being unborn, and with the arising of the antidote, it will not revert and will be able to eliminate temporary adventitious defilements such as desire. Therefore, it is merely the nature of its own essence, which is naturally luminous and completely pure. Thus, after generally teaching about minds with desire, etc., and minds without desire, etc., in order to teach the methods in order, one explanation of abiding in the mind, etc., and two of completely grasping the mind, etc., are taught. The so-called "abiding in the baseless" means abiding in the baseless, which is not suitable for abiding, tasting the taste of absorption, etc., because it becomes the cause of desire, etc., so it abides and is manifestly attached. Subhuti, those minds are ungraspable and should not be completely grasped, because for that, by attending to the object that makes the mind agitated or suspects agitation, one becomes disgusted. The cause of calm abiding and attending to the object that makes one very happy when the mind is depressed or suspects depression, the cause of complete grasping and the effortless attention when one attains equanimity of mind, the cause of equanimity should be taken. Thus, the cause of being free from desire, etc., is mind.

Therefore, the mind should be well grasped. Or, it should not be grasped by the very nature of being grasped, nor should it be repeatedly grasped. Those minds and consciousnesses themselves are shown in general categories, that is, in order, one category such as minds with outflows, and two categories such as minds without outflows. Subhuti, those minds are without self-nature and like non-existence. The so-called minds with outflows are without their own self-nature because they should be reversed by the arising of the opponent side, and they are even more similar to non-existence. Subhuti, those minds are engaged in non-things, the so-called minds without outflows are the ultimate of no afflictions to be abandoned by seeing and meditating. Therefore, it is spontaneously accomplished because it allows the continuum to be completely purified by its own nature. Furthermore, the six divisions of those themselves are spoken of in categories such as attachment. Attachment of the mind, etc. What is this attachment of the mind itself, that is, the nature of attachment to the objects of each ordinary being, that is not the true suchness of the mind. The self-illuminating nature is that reason can become the nature of illusion, because of the ability to eliminate and the inability to eliminate, these are in order the nature of being moving and unmoving. Likewise, the true suchness of the mind, which is the nature of no outflows, by meditating on the antidote of the noble ones, is not attachment,

By knowing with the mind what is truly as it is, that is, by realizing it as the nature of emptiness, it is not bound by the mind's attachment. Therefore, in the state of emptiness, the mind is free from attachment. Likewise, the explanation of being bound by anger, etc., the remaining scriptures should also be explained following this. Showing the knowledge of the mind's vastness, turning into two explanations from the gate of cessation and arising, that is, it is said, "Those that are not vast minds," and so on. Subhuti, those minds are not endowed with arising, understanding that there is no arising, that is, in that reality, because of no birth, because of the emptiness connected with the cause, they are not endowed with arising. Because they are free from arising, because they are not connected with the realm of desire, etc., it is understood that those minds are without arising. Because it is not an object of focus, it is not vast. Subhuti, those minds do not decrease or increase, etc., because there is no destruction, they do not decrease, and because there is no birth, they do not increase. Because of that, because there is no separation from going somewhere, there is no separation. Thus, because it is the nature of the Dharmadhatu, it is called the vast mind. By the gate of cessation and arising, with two explanations showing the knowledge of the mind that has become great, that is, it is said, "Those that have not become great minds," and so on. Subhuti, those minds have no coming, no going, that is, by preventing the existence of fruit, because they are free from coming from the past time, those minds have no coming. Because in every way they are not destroyed, it is not appropriate to go in the future, so there is no going. In the present time, also, because they are free from the nature of one and many, they are inconceivable. Thus, they are not great. Subhuti, those minds are equal by equality, that is, the nature is equal, that is, in that reality, because it is the nature of no birth, because of the equality with the non-substantial things such as self, those minds are equal.
