Furthermore, perception and formations, and consciousness, whatever is called these, and up to what is called the Buddha's teachings, it should be understood that this is merely a name suddenly established on the object of the characteristic of formations. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya asked the Blessed One as follows: Blessed One, if that is the case, then what is called form? And feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, whatever is called these, and up to what is called the Buddha's teachings, is it only by taking hold of which object of the characteristic of formations that it becomes a name and perception and designation, and subsequently the designation of language, is it only regarded as the nature of form? After asking this, the Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya: For the object of the characteristic of formations, as form, it becomes a name and perception and designation, and subsequently the designation of language. Maitreya, what do you think? Is that the nature of form or is it merely a designation? He replied: It is merely a designation. Blessed One, it is merely a designation. Maitreya, if that is the case, then what is called form, is it only by taking hold of which object of the characteristic of formations that it becomes a name and perception and designation and subsequently the designation of language, is it only regarded as the nature of form? Maitreya, what do you think? Is the nature between feeling and perception and formations and consciousness and the Buddha's teachings, is it nature or is it merely a designation? He replied: Blessed One, it is merely a designation. Blessed One, it is merely a designation. Maitreya, if that is the case, then how is it that the nature between feeling and perception and formations and consciousness and the Buddha's teachings is only regarded as nature? Maitreya asked: Blessed One, if form is only a name and perception and symbol and designation and language, Blessed One, if between feeling and perception and formations and consciousness and the Buddha's teachings, it is name and perception and
