How should one train in those with outflows and those without outflows, those with faults and those without faults, the inferior and the superior, internal nature and external nature, seeing, hearing, and knowing, the past, the future, and the present, virtue, non-virtue, and the unspecified, those with desire and those endowed with desire, those with form and those endowed with form, those without form and those endowed without form, learners and non-learners, neither learners nor non-learners? How should one train in desire, anger, pride, ignorance, views, and doubt? How should one train in miserliness, generosity, immoral conduct, moral discipline, harmful intent, patience, laziness, diligence, distraction, meditation, wrong wisdom, and wisdom? How should one train in conceptualization, emptiness, signs, signlessness, wrong aspirations, non-aspirations, and the lovely and unlovely dharmas? How should one train in afflictions, abandoning afflictions, thoroughly afflicting, purification, samsara and nirvana, and the Buddha's dharmas? Having thus requested, the Bhagavan spoke to Maitreya, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, saying: Maitreya, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to train in the practice of the Prajnaparamita, in the training of a Bodhisattva, should train in "form is only a name." Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are only names, and so on, up to the unshared dharmas of the Buddha are only names. Then, Maitreya, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, when does one focus on this as form, this as name, and rely on the real? When does one focus on this as feeling, perception, and formations?

And, consciousness, this is name, focusing on things. When this is between the Dharmas of the Buddhas. This is name, thus taking the mark of conditioned phenomena, when focusing on things, How should a Bodhisattva train to say that form is only a name? And feeling, and perception, and formations, and consciousness are only names, thus doing, and between the Dharmas of the Buddhas, only name, thus training. If things do not exist, then that name is also only a name, thus doing is not reasonable. Form thus doing, that is only a name, thus doing is not reasonable. And feeling, and perception, and formations, and consciousness thus doing, and the Dharmas of the Buddhas thus doing, this is also only a name, thus doing is not reasonable. When asked thus, the Bhagavan said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya: Form thus doing, this is the thing of the mark of conditioned phenomena, in that and that place, suddenly designated as a name. And feeling, and perception, and formations, and consciousness thus doing, that is suddenly designated as a name. Between the Dharmas of the Buddhas thus doing, this is also suddenly designated as a name. Maitreya, whoever from the thing of the mark of conditioned phenomena, in the name of form thus doing, that in form thus doing, truly understands, and understands, and individually truly knows arises. Maitreya, by those reasons, form thus doing, this and, feeling and, perception and, formations and, consciousness thus doing, this and, the Dharmas of the Buddhas etc. thus doing, this is the thing of the mark of conditioned phenomena, in that and that place, suddenly designated as a name, should be known thus. Maitreya, what do you think, what do you think? In the thing of the mark of conditioned phenomena, is there thought here? Or designation? Or name? Or terminology? Or direct realization? Answered: Bhagavan, it is not so. Maitreya, by these reasons, form thus doing, this and, feeling and
