Rabjor, what do you think? Do these sentient beings know that all dharmas are empty of their own nature? He replied: No, O Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Rabjor, if those sentient beings knew that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, then the Bodhisattva Mahasattva would not enter into unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. If they did not enter into unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, then sentient beings would not be liberated from the three lower realms and the cycle of samsara. Rabjor, those sentient beings do not know that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, and because they do not know, they are not completely liberated from the cycle of the five realms. Therefore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having seen from those Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, enters into unsurpassed perfect enlightenment for the sake of sentient beings. These dharmas are not to be manifestly clung to by ordinary childish beings. They conceive of things that do not exist and are not real, they conceive of no sentient beings as sentient beings, they conceive of no form as form, and they conceive of no consciousness as consciousness, and of feeling, perception, formation and consciousness as consciousness. They conceive of the non-existent sense bases as sense bases, they conceive of the non-existent realms as realms, they conceive of the non-existent dependent origination as dependent origination, they conceive of the non-existent mundane dharmas as mundane dharmas, they conceive of the non-existent supramundane dharmas as supramundane dharmas, they conceive of the non-existent contaminated dharmas as contaminated dharmas, they conceive of the non-existent uncontaminated dharmas as uncontaminated dharmas, they conceive of the non-existent compounded dharmas as compounded dharmas, and they conceive of the non-existent uncompounded dharmas as uncompounded dharmas, and thus, with minds that have become inverted by the inversion of what is not, those who manifestly perform actions of body, speech, and mind are not completely liberated from the cycle of the five realms. Therefore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should practice the Perfection of Wisdom.

Having gathered all virtuous dharmas, practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, one attains complete and perfect enlightenment, unsurpassed. Having attained complete Buddhahood, liberating sentient beings from the cycle of the five realms is said to be the altruistic activity that is unfailing in relation to karma and its results. Subhuti asked: If all dharmas are empty of their own characteristics, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva attain complete and perfect enlightenment, unsurpassed, and liberate sentient beings from the cycle of the five realms? The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, in this case, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having attained complete and perfect enlightenment, unsurpassed, demonstrates, explains, establishes, sets forth, elucidates, distinguishes, clarifies, and accurately proclaims to sentient beings suffering, the arising of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path leading to the cessation of suffering. All virtuous qualities related to the Four Noble Truths, and all that distinguishes the Three Jewels, are completely gathered together. Because the Three Jewels—the Buddha Jewel, the Dharma Jewel, and the Sangha Jewel—appear in the world, sentient beings are completely liberated from the path of the cycle of the five realms. Subhuti asked: Blessed One, is it through seeking suffering that one is completely liberated from suffering? Or is it through suffering itself that one is completely liberated from suffering? Is it through seeking the origin that one is completely liberated from suffering? Or is it through the origin itself that one is liberated from suffering? Is it through seeking the cessation of suffering that one is completely liberated from suffering? Or is it through the cessation of suffering itself that one is completely liberated from suffering? Is it through seeking the path that one is completely liberated from suffering? Or is it through the path itself that one is completely liberated from suffering? The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, one is not completely liberated from suffering through knowing suffering, nor through suffering itself. One is not completely liberated from suffering through knowing the origin, nor through the origin itself.
