Or the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, or the noble truths, and meditation, and the immeasurable, and the formless attainments, and liberation, and the successive abidings, and emptiness, and signlessness, and wishlessness, and clairvoyance, and samadhi, and the doors of dharani, or the powers of the Tathagata, and fearlessness, and individual perfect knowledge, and great love, and great compassion, and the unmixed qualities of the Buddha, or the fruit of stream-entry, and the fruit of once-returning, and the fruit of non-returning, and Arhatship, and self-enlightenment, or up to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, one will not become attached to any dharma. Why is that? Because all dharmas are empty of all dharmas by their very nature. Emptiness does not become attached to emptiness. If emptiness is without an object, what need is there to mention becoming attached to emptiness? Subhuti, thus the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, without attachment to all dharmas, practices all dharmas. He abides in this training and observes what these beings practice, that is, he observes the conduct of beings. He thinks, 'Alas! These beings practice with unreal grasping.' 'Alas! It is not difficult to liberate these beings from unreal grasping.' Then, with skillful means, abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom, he proclaims, 'O beings, come here! Give alms! By this you will be endowed with enjoyment, but do not be arrogant with that enjoyment. There is no essence in it.' Likewise, he exhorts to moral discipline: 'O beings, come here! Keep the precepts! But do not be arrogant with those precepts. There is no essence in it.' Likewise, he exhorts to patience: 'O beings, come here! Cultivate patience! But do not be arrogant with that patience. There is no essence in it.' Likewise, he exhorts to diligence:

Meditate on wisdom! Even with wisdom, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose all of emptiness! Alas! Sentient beings, come here! Meditate on emptiness! Even with emptiness, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment! Alas! Sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the factors of the path to enlightenment! Even with those factors of the path to enlightenment, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose the noble truths, meditation, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, liberation, the successive abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, clairvoyance, concentration, and the doors of dharani! Alas! Sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the doors of dharani! Even with those doors of dharani, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the unshared qualities of the Buddha! Alas! Sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the unshared qualities of the Buddha! Even with those unshared qualities of the Buddha, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in that.

of, and the state of Arhat, choose self-enlightenment, hey sentient beings, come here! Meditate on self-enlightenment! Even with self-enlightenment, do not be arrogant, for there is no essence in it. Similarly, up to the state of omniscience, exhorting, hey sentient beings, come here! Meditate on omniscience! Even with omniscience, do not be arrogant, for there is no essence in it. Thus, exhorting sentient beings, and subsequently teaching, even practicing the Bodhisattva path, there is no attachment to anything. Why is that? Because all dharmas are without attachment, because they have the nature of emptiness. There is no nature of what can be attached to. Subhuti, therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, even practicing the path of enlightenment, does not abide in anything. He practices the perfection of giving in a non-abiding manner, and does not abide in it. The perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, the perfection of wisdom, even practicing, he does not abide in it. He enters the first dhyana, but does not abide in it. Why is that? Because the first dhyana is empty by the nature of meditation. Whoever enters into samadhi is also empty by nature. The ways in which one enters into samadhi, those ways are also empty by nature. He enters the second dhyana, the third dhyana, the fourth dhyana. He enters into loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. He enters into the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. The eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the noble truths, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, supernormal knowledges, even entering into samadhi, he does not
