Unseen. Shariputra, beings, due to their ignorance, cling to what is called aggregates, or what is called sources, or what is called realms, or what is called dependent origination, or what is called the Dharma of dependent origination. Apart from this, all Dharmas are without substance, without life, separated from life, the very nature of non-existence, empty of inherent existence, empty of self-characteristics. Therefore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he truly sees that all Dharmas are of the nature of non-existence, empty of inherent existence, and empty of self-characteristics. Like a magician, he blesses his body with miraculous powers and teaches the Dharma to sentient beings. To those sentient beings who are miserly, he speaks of generosity. To those who have bad morality, he speaks of morality. To those who are hostile, he speaks of patience. To those who are lazy, he speaks of diligence. To those whose minds are distracted, he speaks of concentration. To those who have flawed wisdom, he speaks of wisdom. When these sentient beings are established in generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, and wisdom, then further, he speaks sublime words to those sentient beings, so that they may attain the fruit of stream-entry, or attain the fruit of once-returning, or attain the fruit of non-returning, or attain the state of Arhatship, or attain self-enlightenment, or even attain the state of omniscience. He speaks such words. Asked: Blessed One, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he thus guides beings who do not exist and are not real to practice generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, and wisdom, and further, speaks sublime words, so that they may attain the fruit of stream-entry, or the fruit of once-returning, or

The fruit of non-returning, and the Arhat, attaining self-enlightenment, and even attaining all-knowingness, how could such talk not have an object? The Blessed One said: Shariputra, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva has no object when practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Why is that? Because when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not perceive any sentient being except for the conventional designation. Shariputra, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this, abiding in the conventional truth and the ultimate truth, teaching the Dharma to sentient beings on the two truths, Shariputra, for the two truths, there is no perception of sentient beings, nor is there any establishment as sentient beings. However, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva skillfully practices the Perfection of Wisdom, if he teaches the Dharma to sentient beings, if he does not regard those sentient beings as himself in this life, what need is there to mention what is to be attained and by what means? Shariputra, in this way, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he skillfully teaches the Dharma to sentient beings. Reported: Blessed One, in this way, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not perceive any Dharma as one or different, such armor seeking, and seeking that armor is not in the desire realm, nor in the form realm, nor in the formless realm, nor in the conditioned realm and the unconditioned realm, sentient beings are liberated from the three realms, and there is no perception of sentient beings, nor is there any perception of being established as sentient beings, this is possessing great joy, because there is no establishment as sentient beings, therefore there is no bondage and liberation of sentient beings. Without the bondage and liberation of sentient beings, there is no complete affliction and complete purification. Without complete affliction and complete purification, there is no different continuum of the path. Without the different continuum of the path, there is no karma and affliction, karma and afflic

If there is no affliction, what kind of fruition would cause me or sentient beings to exist in the cycle of the five realms? The Blessed One said: Shariputra, it is just so, it is just so, just as it is said. If a sentient being appeared before and did not appear later, or if what existed before disappeared later, if the cycle of the five realms existed before and disappeared later, if the Tathagata and Bodhisattva also existed before and disappeared later, then there would be such a fault. Shariputra, whether the Tathagatas appear or do not appear, these dharmas are suchness, non-erroneous suchness, non-other suchness, the nature of dharma, the abiding nature of dharma, the faultless nature of dharma, the ultimate truth, the inconceivable realm, all abide in that way. In it there is no self, no sentient being, no life, no goer, no nourisher, no person, no individual, no powerful one, no lord of power, no doer, no feeler, no knower, no seer. If so, where would form be? Where would feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness be? Where would the six sense bases, the elements, and dependent origination be? Where would the dharmas of dependent origination be? If there are no such dharmas, where would the cycle of the five realms be, where would there be sentient beings to be liberated? Shariputra, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having heard from the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones of the past, such dharmas, emptiness of intrinsic nature, manifests perfect and complete enlightenment for the benefit of sentient beings, and has no attachment to sentient beings or any dharma, except for ordinary people who are deluded by inversion. Shariputra, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva thus puts on the great armor, and having put on this armor, he will not turn back from the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. I
