O Subhuti, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom, they should instruct and teach other Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas thus: "Noble sons, come forth and become skilled in the manifestation of letters. Become skilled in one letter. Become skilled in the two letters up to the forty-two letters. With one letter, know all the nature of what is expressed. With two letters, know all the nature of what is expressed. With the forty-two letters, know all the nature of what is expressed. Meditate that the forty-two letters are contained in one letter. Meditate that one letter is contained in the forty-two letters." Thus they teach the Dharma. O Subhuti, that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is also skilled in one letter, skilled in the forty-two letters, skilled in meditating that the forty-two letters are contained within one letter, skilled in meditating that one letter is contained within the forty-two letters. Thus, if one wishes to be skilled in the manifestation of letters, one should become accustomed to the path and be skilled in the manifestation of non-letters. O Subhuti, for example,

And practices the perfection of patience, the perfection of discipline, the perfection of generosity, practices the four meditations, the immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, practices the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, practices the fourteen emptinesses, practices the emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness samadhi, practices the eight liberations, the nine sequential abiding samadhis, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, the thirty-two major marks of a great being, and the eighty minor marks, abiding in the six superknowledges arising from maturation, and teaches the Dharma to sentient beings. In that, sentient beings are not apprehended, nor is the designation of sentient beings apprehended. Because sentient beings are not apprehended, form is also not manifest. Because sentient beings are not apprehended, feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are also not manifest. Because sentient beings are not apprehended, even up to the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha are not manifest. Because sentient beings are not apprehended, even up to all-knowingness is not manifest. Because sentient beings are not apprehended, the thirty-two major marks of a great being are also not manifest. The eighty minor marks are also not manifest. In the non-manifestation of sentient beings, there are no sentient beings. There is no form. There is no feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness. Even up to the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha are not present. Even up to all-knowingness is not present. There are no thirty-two major marks of a great being. There are no eighty minor marks. Why is that? World Honored One, when the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, if the Bodhisattva himself is not apprehended, how can the factors of enlightenment be apprehended?

Where is the place? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is so, it is so, just as you have said. Subhuti, in that case, since sentient beings are not apprehended, one should understand the emptiness of the internal. One should understand the emptiness of the external. One should understand the emptiness of the internal and external. One should understand up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things. One should understand up to the emptiness of the aggregates. One should understand the emptiness of the elements. One should understand the emptiness of the sense bases. One should understand the emptiness of dependent origination. One should understand the emptiness of truth. One should understand the emptiness of self. One should understand the emptiness of sentient beings. Life and, going and, nurturing and, person and, individual and, powerful one and, lord of power and, doer and, causer to do and, seeker and, universal seeker and, feeler and, causer to feel and, knower and, seer, all should be understood as emptiness. One should understand the mindfulnesses as emptiness. One should understand the right abandonments and, the feet of miraculous power and, the faculties and, the powers and, the limbs of enlightenment and, the eightfold noble path as emptiness. One should understand the noble truths and, the meditations and, the immeasurables and, the formless absorptions and, the eight liberations and, the nine successive abidings and, emptiness and, signlessness and, wishlessness and, the ten powers of the Tathagata and, the four fearlessnesses and, the four analytical knowledges and, great love and, great compassion and, the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha as emptiness.
