Neither is it. It does not possess the first dhyana, nor is it separated. It does not possess the second dhyana, nor is it separated. It does not possess the third dhyana, nor is it separated. It does not possess the fourth dhyana, nor is it separated. It does not possess loving-kindness, nor is it separated. It does not possess compassion, nor is it separated. It does not possess joy, nor is it separated. It does not possess equanimity, nor is it separated. It does not possess the attainment of the sphere of infinite space, nor is it separated. It does not possess the attainment of the sphere of infinite consciousness, nor is it separated. It does not possess the attainment of the sphere of nothingness, nor is it. It does not possess the attainment of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, nor is it separated. It does not possess mindfulness, nor is it right exertion, nor is it the basis of magical power, nor is it the faculty, nor is it the power, nor is it the limb of enlightenment, nor is it the eightfold noble path. Nor is it separated. It does not possess the noble truths, nor is it dhyana, nor is it immeasurable, nor is it the attainment of the formless realms, nor is it liberation, nor is it the gradual abiding attainment, nor is it the door to liberation, emptiness, nor is it signlessness, nor is it wishlessness, nor is it supernormal knowledge, nor is it samadhi, nor is it the doors of dharani. Nor is it separated. It does not possess the powers of the Tathagata, nor is it fearlessness, nor is it individual perfect knowledge, nor is it great loving-kindness, nor is it great compassion, nor is it the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. Nor is it separated. It does not possess the conditioned realm and the unconditioned realm, nor is it separated. Therefore, those are called noble ones, because this is their Dharma and Discipline, therefore it is called the Dharma and Discipline of the noble ones. Why is that? Because, like this, all those dharmas are formless, invisible, unimpeded, of one characteristic, like this, without characteristic. Those are formless, not possessing formlessness, nor are they separated. Invisible, not possessing invisibility, nor are they

Yes. Unobstructed and, having unobstructed is neither existent nor non-existent. Signless and, having signless is neither existent nor non-existent, this is said to be a wrong understanding of the opposing side and the remedial side. Subhuti, this is the formlessness of Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, unteachable, unobstructed, signless, the perfection of a single sign; to this, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should train. Having trained in this, they will not fixate on any characteristic of phenomena. Subhuti asked: World-Honored One, then should we not train in the characteristic of form? Should we not train in the characteristics of feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness? Should we not train in the characteristics of the sense bases, elements, and dependent origination? Should we not train in the characteristic of the perfection of generosity? Should we not train in the characteristics of the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom? Should we not train in the characteristic of inner emptiness? Should we not train in the characteristic between the emptiness of the nature of non-things? Should we not train in the characteristic of the first dhyana? Should we not train in the characteristics of the second dhyana, the third dhyana, and the fourth dhyana?
