How does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in the perfection of meditative concentration and uphold the perfection of wisdom? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of wisdom does not apprehend form. He does not apprehend feeling, perception, formation, or consciousness. He does not apprehend the eye. He does not apprehend the ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind. He does not apprehend form. He does not apprehend sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharma. He does not apprehend eye-consciousness. He does not apprehend up to mind-consciousness. He does not apprehend eye-contact. He does not apprehend up to mind-contact. He does not apprehend the feeling born from eye-contact. He does not apprehend up to the feeling born from mind-contact. He does not apprehend the earth element. He does not apprehend up to the consciousness element. He does not apprehend ignorance. He does not apprehend up to old age and death. He does not apprehend the perfection of giving. He does not apprehend the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditative concentration, or the perfection of wisdom. He does not apprehend inner emptiness. He does not apprehend up to the emptiness of the self-nature of non-things. He does not apprehend the mindfulnesses. He does not apprehend the right abandonments, the legs of magical power, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path. He does not apprehend the noble truths. He does not apprehend meditative concentration. He does not apprehend the immeasurables. He does not apprehend the formless absorptions. He does not apprehend the eight liberations. He does not apprehend the nine sequential abidings. He does not apprehend the doors of liberation: emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. He does not apprehend supernormal knowledges. He does not apprehend samadhi. He does not apprehend the doors of dharani. He does not apprehend the powers of the Tathagata. He does not apprehend fearlessness. He does not apprehend the separate correct knowledges. He does not apprehend great love. He does not apprehend great compassion. He does not apprehend the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddhas.

Furthermore, even perfect omniscience is not apprehended. The realm of the conditioned is not apprehended. The realm of the unconditioned is not apprehended. Because it is not apprehended in this way, it does not manifestly accumulate. Because it does not manifestly accumulate, it does not arise or cease. Why is that? Subhuti, whether the Tathagatas appear or do not appear, the very nature of the dharmas, the abiding of the dharmas, remains. Because the suchness of the realm of dharmas abides, it does not arise or cease. Therefore, it is endowed with a mind free from distraction, and is inseparable from the mental activity endowed with perfect omniscience. Those roots of virtue are not dedicated to the Hearers or Solitary Buddhas, but are made common to all sentient beings and dedicated to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. How does one dedicate, with what does one dedicate, and to what does one dedicate? One dedicates in such a way that the three concepts of what is dedicated, with what it is dedicated, and to what it is dedicated do not arise. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the perfection of meditative concentration and upholds the perfection of wisdom. The question: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in the perfection of wisdom and uphold the perfection of giving? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva engages in the perfection of wisdom, he correctly observes that all dharmas are empty. The question: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, when engaging in the perfection of wisdom, correctly observe that all dharmas are empty? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva engages in the perfection of wisdom, he does not apprehend inner emptiness as inner emptiness. He does not apprehend outer emptiness as outer emptiness. He does not apprehend inner-outer emptiness as inner-outer emptiness. He does not apprehend emptiness of emptiness as emptiness of emptiness.
