Dedicate to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Do not dedicate to Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. How is that dedicated? In that way, one dedicates without adhering to the three concepts of 'by what is dedicated,' 'what is dedicated,' and 'where it is dedicated.' Subhūti, in that way, a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva abides in the Perfection of Diligence and fully upholds the Perfection of Meditation. Question: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva abide in the Perfection of Diligence and fully uphold the Perfection of Wisdom? The Blessed One said: Subhūti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva abides in the Perfection of Diligence and does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the Perfection of Generosity. He does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the Perfection of Morality, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Meditation, and the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the emptiness of the internal. He does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the emptiness of the external and internal. Up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things, he does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics. He does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the mindfulnesses. He does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the correct abandonments, the legs of miraculous power, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path. He does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the noble truths, the meditations, the immeasurables, and the formless absorptions. He does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and the superknowledges. He does not truly see the objects and substances, as well as the characteristics, of the samādhis.

The doors of aggregates are not truly seen as things, substances, and characteristics. The ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha are not truly seen as things, substances, and characteristics. Even the all-knowingness is not truly seen as things, substances, and characteristics. Since all dharmas are not truly seen as things, substances, and characteristics, one does not dwell in any dharma, and acts according to what is said. Also, those roots of virtue are not dedicated to the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but are made common with all sentient beings and dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. That is, one dedicates without adhering to the three concepts of how to dedicate, with what to dedicate, and where to dedicate. Subhuti, thus a Bodhisattva Mahasattva dwells in the perfection of diligence and upholds the perfection of wisdom. Asked: World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva dwell in the perfection of meditation and uphold the perfection of giving? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, secluded from desires, secluded from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, with initial application and sustained application, dwells having attained the first dhyana, which is born of seclusion and accompanied by joy and pleasure. When initial application and sustained application cease, having inner serenity and unification of mind, he dwells having attained the second dhyana, which is without initial application and sustained application, and is born of concentration, accompanied by joy and pleasure. He is detached from joy, abides in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness, experiencing pleasure with the body, and the noble ones say that he abides in equanimity with mindfulness and pleasure, he dwells having attained the third dhyana, which is without joy. He abandons pleasure and abandons suffering.

Since the joy and displeasure of trees have long since disappeared, there is neither joy nor suffering, but equanimity and completely pure mindfulness. He approaches and abides in the fourth dhyana. Similarly, he approaches and abides between the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. He abides in that perfection of dhyana, and with an undistracted mind, he completely gives material gifts and Dharma gifts to those beings, and encourages others to also give material gifts and Dharma gifts. He speaks of the merits of material gifts and Dharma gifts. Furthermore, he praises the merits of those who completely give material gifts and Dharma gifts, and rejoices in their actions. However, he does not dedicate these roots of virtue to the level of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha, but rather shares them with all sentient beings and dedicates them to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Subhuti, in this way, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not engage in the three concepts of who dedicates, what is dedicated, or where it is dedicated, but makes a complete dedication in this way. Subhuti, in this way, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of dhyana and completely upholds the perfection of giving. Asked: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abide in the perfection of dhyana and completely uphold the perfection of ethics? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of dhyana and does not generate a mind filled with desire, a mind filled with hatred, a mind filled with delusion, or a mind filled with harm. Instead, he acts with a mind that is in accordance with all-knowingness, and he does not dedicate these roots of virtue to the level of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha, but rather shares them with all sentient beings and dedicates them to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. So, how and by what means does he make a complete dedication?
