It proceeds with the characteristic of non-fabrication in the name of "no self." Because it possesses such skillful means, it engages in the perfection of patience, which is capable of increasing the roots of virtue. It engages in the perfection of patience and matures sentient beings. It also purifies the Buddha-fields. Otherwise, for the sake of completely saving all sentient beings and for the sake of maturing sentient beings, apart from engaging in the perfection of patience, it does not desire such a result as the result of patience that should be fully enjoyed in samsara. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva engages in the perfection of diligence, from the moment of first generating the mind, he takes it up well and exerts diligence with the intention of possessing all-knowingness. Because the armor is firm and the subjugation of others is also firm, he does not generate a mind of laziness and indolence. He does not even consider suffering for the sake of enlightenment. Why is that? Subhuti, it is because he knows that all phenomena are empty of their own nature, and he sees that all phenomena are non-existent, unborn, incomplete, and unmanifest. Even if he enters into the Dharma-nature of phenomena, All phenomena proceed with the characteristic of non-fabrication in the name of "no ability whatsoever" and "non-existent." Because it possesses such skillful means, it engages in the perfection of diligence, increasing the roots of virtue. It engages in the perfection of diligence and matures sentient beings. It also purifies the Buddha-fields. Otherwise, for the sake of completely saving all sentient beings and for the sake of maturing sentient beings, apart from engaging in the perfection of diligence, it does not desire such a result as the result of diligence that should be fully enjoyed in samsara. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva engages in the perfection of meditative concentration, from the moment of first generating the mind, he takes it up well and enters into all the meditative concentrations with the intention of possessing all-knowingness.

If one sees forms with the eyes, one will not cling to characteristics, nor will one cling to manifest signs. Because one remains in the natural state, without restraining the sense faculty of the eyes with discipline, one strives to restrain the covetousness and displeasure that dwell in the mind, and the sinful and unwholesome dharmas that depend on the mind, and one guards the sense faculty of the eyes. Similarly, when one hears sounds with the ears, smells odors with the nose, tastes flavors with the tongue, touches tangible objects with the body, and knows dharmas with the mind, one will not cling to characteristics, nor will one cling to manifest signs. Because one remains in the natural state, without restraining the sense faculty of the mind with discipline, one strives to restrain the covetousness and displeasure, and the sinful and unwholesome dharmas that depend on the mind, and one guards the sense faculty of the mind. Whether walking, standing, sitting, lying down, or not speaking, one does not abandon the state of meditative equipoise, one does not forsake this state, so that the hands do not become rough, the feet do not become rough, the mouth does not become harsh, and the speech does not become excessive. The eyes are not distracted, the senses are not distracted, not coarse, the mind is not agitated, the body is not confused, the mind is not confused, the body is peaceful, the speech is peaceful, the mind is peaceful, there is no hypocrisy, behavior is unpretentious, and one is content with whatever food, drink, bedding, medicine for sickness, and utensils are available. Easy to satisfy, easy to nourish, content, virtuous in conduct, and one dwells in a secluded place, far from crowds. One remains equal and unchanging towards gain and loss, without high or low. One remains equal and unchanging towards pleasure and pain, praise and blame, fame and infamy, life and death, without high or low. One remains equal and unchanging towards enemies and friends, good and bad, agreeable and disagreeable, pleasant sounds and unpleasant sounds, mixed and unmixed, without high or low. One is free from conformity and non-conformity towards beautiful and ugly forms. Why is this? Subhuti, it is because of this.
