It is abandoning wrong views. Furthermore, it correctly encourages the abandonment of wrong views. It is proclaiming the merits of abandoning wrong views. Furthermore, whoever abandons wrong views, their merits are proclaimed, and one rejoices with them through rejoicing. One does not dwell in the realm of those who are determined to have the perfection of discipline. One does not dwell in the form realm. One does not dwell in the formless realm. One does not dwell in the ground of the hearers or the ground of the solitary buddhas. Otherwise, those roots of virtue are made common with all sentient beings and dedicated entirely to the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. How is it dedicated? It is dedicated in such a way that the three concepts of who dedicates, what is dedicated, and where it is dedicated do not enter. Subhuti, in this way, a bodhisattva mahasattva dwells in the perfection of diligence and completely upholds the perfection of discipline. Asked: Blessed One, how does a bodhisattva mahasattva dwell in the perfection of diligence and completely uphold the perfection of patience? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, from the time a bodhisattva mahasattva generates the first thought until he sits at the Bodhi tree, even if he is disturbed in mind by a human or non-human being, or all of his limbs are cut off, severed, taken away, and discarded, the bodhisattva mahasattva who dwells in the perfection of diligence does not think, 'What has been cut off from me, severed, or taken away?' Otherwise, he thinks, 'For the sake of my body being perfected, those people come here, cut off, sever, take away, and discard my limbs. I think I have obtained the benefit that should be obtained.' This is also properly attending to the nature of all phenomena. Those roots of virtue are not dedicated to the ground of the hearers or the ground of the solitary buddhas. Otherwise, they are made common with all sentient beings and dedicated entirely to the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. How is it dedicated? With what is it dedicated?

And, not clinging to the three concepts of what is dedicated, and where it is dedicated, dedicate in this way. Subhuti, in this way, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva dwells in the perfection of diligence, and completely upholds the perfection of patience. Reporting: World Honored One, how does the Bodhisattva Mahasattva dwell in the perfection of diligence, and completely uphold the perfection of meditation? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is secluded from desires, secluded from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, possessing investigation and analysis, possessing examination, from the joy and happiness born of seclusion, approaches and dwells in the first dhyana. When that investigation and analysis are pacified, the inner mind is completely clear, the continuum of the mind becomes one, from the joy and happiness born of samadhi without investigation and analysis, approaches and dwells in the second dhyana. Those who are free from attachment from joy, possessing mindfulness and awareness, dwell in equanimity, the body experiences happiness, the noble ones say that is possessing mindfulness, observing happiness is equanimity, approaches and dwells in the third dhyana without joy. That also abandons happiness, also abandons suffering, and the previous mental pleasure and displeasure have also ceased, there is neither happiness nor suffering, approaches and dwells in the fourth dhyana of complete purity of equanimity and mindfulness. That, with the concept of happiness for sentient beings in mind, approaches and dwells in immeasurable loving-kindness. That, with the concept of sentient beings being free from suffering in mind, approaches and dwells in immeasurable compassion. That, with the concept of joy for sentient beings in mind, approaches and dwells in immeasurable joy. That, with the concept of sentient beings having no suffering and happiness in mind, approaches and dwells in immeasurable equanimity. That, with the concept of coarse form in mind, and with the concept of the tranquility of space in mind, therefore approaches

having cultivated, abides. He considers the sky to be coarse and consciousness to be peaceful, and by contemplating in this way, he draws near to and abides in the sphere of infinite consciousness. He considers consciousness to be coarse and the absence of anything to be peaceful, and by contemplating in this way, he draws near to and abides in the sphere of nothingness. He considers nothingness to be coarse and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception to be peaceful, and by contemplating in this way, he draws near to and abides in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. He does not fully accept the ripening of those concentrations, immeasurables, and formless absorptions. Otherwise, for the sake of benefiting sentient beings, he is born in those realms, and he fully matures those sentient beings in the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of concentration, and the perfection of wisdom, these six perfections. For the purpose of generating roots of virtue, he attends to the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and goes from Buddha-field to Buddha-field. He also shares those roots of virtue with all sentient beings and dedicates them to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. He does not dedicate them to hearers and solitary Buddhas. He dedicates in such a way that the three concepts of "how to dedicate," "who dedicates," and "where to dedicate" do not arise. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of diligence and fully grasps the perfection of concentration. Asked: Lord, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abide in the perfection of diligence and fully grasp the perfection of wisdom? The Lord replied: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of diligence, and with respect to the perfection of generosity, whether it be things, substances, or signs,
