One does not take what is not given. One does not engage in improper sexual conduct. One does not speak false words. One does not speak harsh words of malice. One does not speak frivolous words. One does not engage in covetousness. One does not engage in harmful thoughts. One does not look with wrong views. One abides in the perfection of moral discipline, and for those who desire food, there is food; for those who desire drink, there is drink; for those who desire a vehicle, there is a vehicle; for those who desire clothing, there is clothing; for those who desire flowers, there are flowers; for those who desire garlands, there are garlands; for those who desire incense, there is incense; for those who desire ointment, there is ointment; for those who desire bedding, there is bedding; for those who desire a place, there is a place; for those who desire livelihood, there is livelihood; for those who desire possessions, there are possessions. From giving completely to any human possessions, one gives completely whatever human possessions are desired. When giving in this way, one does not dedicate the giving to the level of hearers or solitary realizers. Having made it common with all sentient beings, one dedicates it to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. And one dedicates it in such a way that the three concepts of how one dedicates, what one dedicates, and to what one dedicates do not arise. Subhuti, in this way, a bodhisattva mahasattva abides in the perfection of moral discipline and upholds the perfection of giving. Asked: "Bhagavan, how does a bodhisattva mahasattva abide in the perfection of moral discipline and uphold the perfection of patience?" The Bhagavan said: "Subhuti, here, in the presence of a bodhisattva mahasattva abiding in the perfection of moral discipline, all sentient beings, from gods, cut off and sever limbs and body parts, but the bodhisattva mahasattva is without agitation and does not generate even a single thought of harm. Furthermore, he thinks to himself: 'In this way, all sentient beings cut off and sever my limbs and body parts, and I have well obtained what I should obtain. By completely abandoning this decaying body of mine, I shall obtain the body of the Tathagata, born of divine substance, diamond.' Thinking in this way, he also dedicates those roots of virtue to hearers and solitary realizers.

not dedicate. After making it common with all sentient beings, dedicate it to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. That is, how to dedicate with what, what to dedicate, and the three concepts of dedicating to what do not arise, dedicate in this way. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of discipline, that is, upholds the perfection of patience. Request: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abide in the perfection of discipline, that is, uphold the perfection of diligence? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, in this regard, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of discipline, thinking, 'I shall liberate sentient beings from samsara and place them in the realm of immortality,' without weakening the diligence of body and mind. That root of virtue is also dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. That is, how to dedicate with what, what to dedicate, and the three concepts of dedicating to what do not arise, dedicate in this way. Request: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva Mahasattva abide in the perfection of discipline, that is, uphold the perfection of meditative concentration? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva enters the first dhyana, the second dhyana, the third dhyana, the fourth dhyana, and even enters the cessation, there is no focus on the Hearer's ground or the Solitary Buddha's ground. Otherwise, he thinks, 'I abide in this perfection of meditative concentration, and I shall liberate all sentient beings from samsara.' Those roots of virtue are also not dedicated to Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. After making it common with all sentient beings,

Dedicate it entirely to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. How is it dedicated? It is dedicated in such a way that one does not adhere to the three concepts of who dedicates, what is dedicated, and where it is dedicated. Subhuti, in this way, a bodhisattva-mahasattva abides in the perfection of discipline and upholds the perfection of meditation. The questioner: Blessed One, how does a bodhisattva-mahasattva abide in the perfection of discipline and uphold the perfection of wisdom? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, in this case, a bodhisattva-mahasattva abides in the perfection of discipline and does not see any dharma as conditioned, nor does he see any dharma as unconditioned; he does not see something existent as conditioned, nor does he see something nonexistent as unconditioned; he does not see something with characteristics as conditioned, nor does he see something without characteristics as unconditioned. Otherwise, no dharma can transcend Suchness, and therefore he does not correctly perceive any dharma as being existent or nonexistent. Through the perfection of wisdom and skillful means, he does not fall into the level of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha. He also does not dedicate those roots of virtue to Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, but shares them with all sentient beings and dedicates them to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. How is it dedicated? It is dedicated in such a way that one does not adhere to the three concepts of who dedicates, what is dedicated, and where it is dedicated. Subhuti, in this way, a bodhisattva-mahasattva abides in the perfection of discipline and upholds the perfection of wisdom. The questioner: Blessed One, how does a bodhisattva-mahasattva abide in the perfection of patience and uphold the perfection of generosity? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, in this case, a bodhisattva-mahasattva, from the moment of first generating the mind until abiding under the Bodhi tree, when completely giving generosity, all sentient beings insult, slander, and even dismember,
