And, abiding in the unmixed Dharmas of the Buddhas, one does not think, 'Am I regressing, or am I not regressing?' One does not generate doubt and has no suspicion about one's own ground. Why is that? Because, in this way, one does not truly see even a particle of the Dharma of regression and non-regression. Subhuti, for example, the fruit of stream-entry, abiding in the ground of the fruit of stream-entry, has no hesitation about one's own ground and has no doubt. Similarly, the once-returner, the non-returner, abiding in the ground of the Arhat, and abiding in the ground of the Pratyekabuddha, have no hesitation about their own ground and have no doubt. Subhuti, similarly, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva also has no hesitation about one's own ground and has no doubt. Therefore, abiding in the ground of non-regression, one purifies the Buddha-field. One also brings sentient beings to complete maturity. One also knows the actions of the Maras that arise and occur, and one does not come under the power of the actions of the Maras. One also knows all those actions of the Maras, and having known them, one destroys them and makes them weak. Subhuti, for example, a person who commits the five heinous crimes does not separate from the mind of the five heinous crimes even until death, and follows after that mind of the five heinous crimes. That mind of the five heinous crimes cannot be destroyed by anyone, even with skillful means. That arising follows even until death. Subhuti, similarly, the non-regressing Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with whatever non-regressing mind, also abides in the ground of non-regression. Because that mind is immovable, it cannot be turned back by the world including gods, humans, and Asuras. Why is that? Because, in this way, the non-regressing mind has transcended the world including gods, humans, and Asuras, and has entered into the true and faultless realm. He abides in his own ground, and having obtained the supreme perfection of wisdom for those who have direct perception, he purifies the Buddha-field. He also brings sentient beings to complete maturity, and the Buddha-field

also goes to the Buddha-fields. In those Buddha-fields, he generates many roots of virtue towards the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and he universally inquires, completely asks, and serves and honors those Buddhas, the Bhagavat. Subhuti, because that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in this way, he understands the works of Mara that arise and occur, and he also does not go under the power of those works of Mara that arise and occur. Those works of Mara, too, he connects to the ultimate reality with skillful means, and in his own ground, he is without timidity and does not have doubt. What is the reason for this? It is because, in this way, he is without timidity in the ultimate reality, so he does not conceptually distinguish the ultimate reality as one or two. Even after death, he does not generate the mind of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha. What is the reason for this? It is because, in this way, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, in the emptiness of all dharmas by their own nature, does not truly see the arising, ceasing, defilement, or purification of any dharma, and this is called knowing the Dharma on the path. Subhuti, in the emptiness of all dharmas by their own nature, that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who does not truly see the arising, ceasing, defilement, or purification of any dharma, even after death, does not think, 'I will not become manifestly, perfectly enlightened in unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment.' He thinks, 'Without a doubt, I will become manifestly, perfectly enlightened in unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment.' What is the reason for this? Subhuti, it is because unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment is empty of its own nature. Subhuti, that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in his own ground, in his own ground he is beyond the reproach of others, and in his own ground he is without guarding. What is the reason for this? Subhuti, it is because the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who is irreversible, abiding in that way, is endowed with unobstructable wisdom. Subhuti, if the Bodhisattva of irreversibility

When the great courageous Bodhisattva is present, the evil Mara approaches in the guise of a Buddha and says, "May you attain Arhatship right here! You have not been predicted to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Those Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, you have not attained the forbearance of non-arising phenomena by which they would predict you to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Those characteristics, those signs, those marks with which a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is endowed and predicted to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, you do not possess those characteristics, those signs, those marks either." Rabjor, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, upon hearing those words, does not shrink, does not panic, does not universally fear, does not become seized by universal fear, and his mind does not change, then, Rabjor, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva will think, "I have been predicted to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment by those Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas." Why is that? It is because I possess those qualities by which a Bodhisattva Mahasattva will be predicted to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. This is known as the forbearance of subsequent knowledge of the path. Rabjor, if an evil Mara or a person blessed by Mara approaches a Bodhisattva Mahasattva in the guise of a Buddha and says, "Son of good family, you will be predicted to be a Hearer, but not to unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. What is the use of unsurpassed enlightenment?" Rabjor, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva thinks, "The Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas do not truly encourage a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to enter the stage of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha. Alas! This is a person blessed by the evil Mara, in the guise of a Buddha.
