Subhuti, this also, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should recognize as the work of Mara. It is said that due to skillfulness and unskillfulness, one does not have complete retinue. Furthermore, Subhuti, if the preacher has obtained dharani, but the listener has not obtained dharani, Subhuti, this also means that with regard to this profound Perfection of Wisdom, the causes and conditions for questioning, receiving, reciting, and properly attending to it are not complete. Subhuti, this also, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should recognize as the work of Mara. Subhuti, this too should be recognized as the work of Mara by a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, that is, due to being separated or not separated from desire and longing, therefore not possessing an assembly. Furthermore, Subhuti, during the time of questioning and meditating on this profound Perfection of Wisdom, if someone comes there and speaks of the unpraiseworthy aspects of the beings in hell, and speaks of the unpraiseworthy aspects of animals and hungry ghosts, saying that the beings in hell suffer in this way, animals suffer in this way, and the realm of hungry ghosts suffers in this way, you should reach the end in this very suffering. What can Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment do for you? Subhuti, this too should be recognized as the work of Mara by a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, that is, turning away from going to the lower realms.

You should attain the fruit of stream-entry here, attain the fruit of once-returning, attain the fruit of non-returning, and attain the state of an Arhat.' 'Attain self-enlightenment here.
