The departed, the worthy, the perfectly enlightened Buddhas, immeasurable and countless, beyond measure, until death, with flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, ointments, powders, garments, umbrellas, victory banners, flags, and all the implements of happiness, to serve, to regard as teachers, to treat with respect, to make offerings, is less than if a son or daughter of the कौशिका lineage extensively explains this Prajñāpāramitā to others, making it understandable in various ways with meaning and letters, correctly and thoroughly clarifying it, contemplating it, liberating it, and correctly teaching it. The merit of this son or daughter of the lineage will greatly increase. Why is that? Because having learned this Prajñāpāramitā, the Tathāgatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas of the past, future, and present have manifestly awakened to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. They have manifestly awakened to Buddhahood. They will manifestly awaken to Buddhahood. This is called the seventh mere reverence. Furthermore, कौशिका, whichever son or daughter of the lineage, for immeasurable and countless eons, practices the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom with a mind of focus, is less than if they extensively, correctly, and thoroughly clarify it to others in a non-focused manner, speak of it, and represent it. Their merit will greatly increase. कौशिका, what is that focus? The Bodhisattva gives alms with a mind of focus, thinking: I am giving alms, this is what I am giving, I will give it to this person. By giving alms in this way, it is merely alms, not the perfection of generosity. This is ethics, I possess ethics, I will protect these beings. Thinking in this way, it is merely ethics, not the perfection of

I practice patience. This is patience. If one thinks, 'I will be patient towards others,' this becomes patience itself, but it is not the perfection of patience. I initiate diligence. This is diligence. If one thinks, 'For the sake of these,' this becomes diligence itself, but it is not the perfection of diligence. I enter into meditative concentration. This is meditative concentration. If one thinks, 'I will settle equally into this,' this becomes meditative concentration itself, but it is not the perfection of meditative concentration. I cultivate wisdom. This is wisdom. If one thinks, 'For the sake of these,' this becomes wisdom itself, but it is not the perfection of wisdom. Kausika, a son or daughter of good family who practices with such attachment does not perfect the perfection of generosity, nor does he perfect the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditative concentration, or the perfection of wisdom. Indra asked: "Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice so as to perfect the perfection of generosity? How does he perfect the perfection of morality? How does he perfect the perfection of patience? How does he perfect the perfection of diligence? How does he perfect the perfection of meditative concentration? How does he perfect the perfection of wisdom?" The Blessed One replied: "Kausika, here, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva gives alms, he does not fixate on the act of giving, he does not fixate on the gift, and he does not fixate on the recipient. This is called the perfection of generosity. He does not fixate on morality, he does not fixate on the one who possesses morality, and he does not fixate on sentient beings. This is called the perfection of mo-
