and the perfection of patience, and the perfection of diligence, and the perfection of meditation are overwhelmed. Kausika, for example, if there are a hundred blind people, or a thousand, or a hundred thousand, because there is no guide, there is no chance to enter the path, how can one expect to enter the city? Kausika, similarly, these five perfections are like blind people, if there is no perfection of wisdom, because there is no guide, there is no chance to enter the path, how can one expect to enter the great city of all-knowingness? Kausika, when the five perfections are completely grasped by the perfection of wisdom, then they will become endowed with eyes, and they will also obtain the name called "perfection." Indra said: Venerable Sariputra, if any five perfections are grasped by the perfection of wisdom, they will also obtain the name called "perfection," just like that. Venerable Sariputra, even if the five perfections are grasped by the perfection of generosity, they will not obtain the name called "perfection." Similarly, even if the five perfections are grasped by the perfection of discipline, patience, diligence, and meditation, they will not obtain the name called "perfection." Sariputra said: Kausika, it is so, it is so. Kausika, even if the five perfections are grasped by generosity, they will not obtain the name called "perfection." Kausika, similarly, even if the five perfections are grasped by the perfection of discipline, patience, diligence, and meditation, they will not obtain the name called "perfection." Kausika, therefore, the perfection of wisdom alone is said to be the most excellent of these five perfections, it is noble, it is the main one, it is supreme, it is the most excellent, it is outstanding, it is very outstanding, it is incomparable, it is incomparable and equal, this is the ultimate excellence.

Then, the venerable Shariputra said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, how should the Perfection of Wisdom be manifestly cultivated?" The Blessed One said: "Shariputra, because form has no manifest cultivation, the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness also have no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. Similarly, the sense bases, the realms, the limbs of dependent origination, and the Perfection of Generosity also have no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. Similarly, the Perfections of Morality, Patience, Diligence, and Meditation also have no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. Inner emptiness has no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. Up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things, there is no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. The thirty-seven factors of enlightenment have no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. The ten powers, the fearlessnesses, the individual perfect knowledges, and the unmixed qualities of the Buddhas have no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. All dharmas have no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated. Similarly, up to all-knowingness, there is no manifest cultivation, so the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated." Shariputra asked: "Blessed One, how is it that because form has no manifest cultivation, the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated? How is it that because even all-knowingness has no manifest cultivation, the Perfection of Wisdom should be manifestly cultivated?" The Blessed One said:

Furthermore, form is manifested without attachment, birth without attachment, things without attachment, arising without attachment, objects without attachment, destruction without attachment, and up to the state of omniscience, manifestation without attachment, birth without attachment, things without attachment, arising without attachment, objects without attachment, destruction without attachment. By thus manifestly cultivating the Perfection of Wisdom, one does not manifestly cling to all phenomena. Shariputra asked: "Lord, what phenomena should be abandoned by the Perfection of Wisdom that is thus manifestly cultivated?" The Lord replied: "Shariputra, in the Perfection of Wisdom that is thus manifestly cultivated, no phenomenon should be abandoned. When no phenomenon is abandoned, then it is included in the Perfection of Wisdom." Shariputra asked: "What phenomena should not be abandoned?" The Lord replied: "Unwholesome phenomena should not be abandoned, wholesome phenomena should not be abandoned. Likewise, that which is blameworthy should not be abandoned, that which is blameless should not be abandoned, that which is tainted should not be abandoned, that which is untainted should not be abandoned, that which is conditioned should not be abandoned, that which is unconditioned should not be abandoned, that which is afflicted should not be abandoned, that which is unafflicted should not be abandoned, that which is worldly should not be abandoned, that which is beyond the world should not be abandoned, that which is defiled should not be abandoned, that which is purified should not be abandoned, that which is cyclic existence should not be abandoned, the phenomena of nirvana should not be abandoned. Why is that? The Perfection of Wisdom does not abide closely to any phenomenon in the manner of an object of focus. Therefore, no phenomenon should be abandoned." Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, asked the Lord: "Lord, is it the case that this Perfection of Wisdom should not even abandon omniscience?" The Lord replied: " कौशिका (kauśika, Kausika, कौशिका), why do you say such a thing?
