Second, the chapter on the freedom of knowing the path, the purity of the two extremes. Second, the chapter on the freedom of knowing the path, the purity of the two extremes. The branch of knowledge of karma. At that time, in this realm of the three thousand great thousand worlds, all the four great kings, as many as there were, gathered together with many thousands of gods and retinues. Likewise, the lords of the gods, such as Indra, and the strife-free ones, the Joyful ones, the ones who control others' emanations, from the Brahma hosts to the great Brahmas, and all the sons of the gods from the Lesser Light to the Pure Abode realms in this realm of the three thousand great thousand worlds, gathered together with hundreds of thousands of billions of sons of the gods of the Pure Abode realms. The light of the bodies of the gods of the four great kingly realms, born from the ripening of karma, and the Thirty-three, the Strife-free, the Joyful, the Delightful Emanations, the Ones Who Control Others' Emanations, up to the sons of the gods of the Pure Abode realms, the light of the bodies born from the ripening of karma, do not even approach one hundredth of the light of the Tathagata's nature. Not even one thousandth. Not even one hundred thousandth. Not even one hundred millionth. Not even in number. Not even in part. Not even in counting. Not even in example. Not even in cause, it is unbearable. In the presence of the light of the Tathagata, the light of those gods is said to be only the light of the Tathagata that is most excellent. It is sacred, it is chief, it is supreme, it is most excellent, it is outstanding, it is unsurpassed, it is incomparable, it is the highest of the high. For example, in the presence of the gold of the Jambu River, black iron is not bright, not shiny, not radiant. Likewise, in the presence of the light of the Tathagata's nature, the light of the gods born from the ripening of karma is not bright, not shiny, not radiant, but only the light of the Tathagata is most excellent. It is sacred, it is chief, it is supreme.

I. It is supremely excellent, it is exceedingly outstanding, it is unsurpassed, it is incomparable, it is the highest of the highest, which is said to dim the radiance of the gods. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, said to the venerable Subhūti: Venerable Subhūti, in the three-thousand great-thousand world realms, the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings, the Thirty-three, the Strife-free, the Joyful, the Contented, the gods who control the creations of others, and all the sons of the gods among the retinue of the Pure Abodes, have gathered here desiring to hear the venerable Subhūti extensively expound the Perfection of Wisdom, to listen to the teaching of the Perfection of Wisdom. Venerable Subhūti, how should a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva abide in the Perfection of Wisdom? What is the Perfection of Wisdom of a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva? This should become a vessel of capacity. Having said this, the venerable Subhūti said to the lord of the gods, Indra. Chapter Twenty-seven. Kauśika, therefore, by the power of the Buddha, by the blessing of the Buddha, the Perfection of Wisdom should be taught to the Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas, and how the Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas should abide in the Perfection of Wisdom. Those sons of the gods who have not generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment should also generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Those who have already entered correctly and without error do not have the power to generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Why is that? Because they have been cut off by the continuum of samsara, which is a determination of separate realms. However, if they generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, they should also be rejoiced over, which is universal. I.

That which is called "not obstructing the virtuous aspects of those" is the nature. That which is called "obtaining the most excellent of the excellent dharmas" is the function. These show making into dumpling-like things and so forth. The Path of the Hearers. Kauśika: What is the Prajñāpāramitā of a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, Kauśika? Here, a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, having generated the mind endowed with all-knowingness, contemplates form as impermanent in a non-objective manner. He contemplates it as suffering, selfless, peaceful, a disease, a boil, an arrow, sinful, other, of the nature of destruction, moving, utterly terrifying, fearful, contagious, and harmful. Having generated the mind endowed with all-knowingness, he contemplates feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, as well as the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, as well as form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharmas, similarly, he contemplates the earth element, water element, fire element, wind element, space element, and consciousness element as impermanent in a non-objective manner. He contemplates them as suffering, selfless, peaceful, a disease, a boil, an arrow, sinful, other, of the nature of destruction, moving, utterly terrifying, fearful, contagious, and harmful.
