Now, with the arising of the mind of enlightenment, due to the condition of action in a non-objective manner, there is consciousness; due to the condition of consciousness, there are name and form; due to the condition of name and form, there are the six sense sources; due to the condition of the six sense sources, there is contact; due to the condition of contact, there is feeling; due to the condition of feeling, there is craving; due to the condition of craving, there is grasping; due to the condition of grasping, there is becoming; due to the condition of becoming, there is birth; due to the condition of birth, there are old age and death, as well as sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil arise. Thus, the great heap of suffering arises, and one should also contemplate it as impermanent. One should contemplate it as suffering, selfless, peaceful, disease, tumor, thorn, sin, other, the nature of destruction, wavering, utterly terrifying, fearful, epidemic, and afflicting. With the mind endowed with all-knowingness, in a non-objective manner, with the cessation of ignorance, the cessation of action should also be contemplated as selfless. One should contemplate it as peaceful, secluded, empty, signless, wishless, and without activity. With the cessation of action, consciousness ceases; with the cessation of consciousness, name and form cease; with the cessation of name and form, the six sense sources cease; with the cessation of the six sense sources, contact ceases; with the cessation of contact, feeling ceases; with the cessation of feeling, craving ceases; with the cessation of craving, grasping ceases; with the cessation of grasping, becoming ceases; with the cessation of becoming, birth ceases; with the cessation of birth, old age and death, as well as sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil cease. Thus, the complete cessation of these great heaps of suffering should also be contemplated as selfless, peaceful, secluded, empty, signless, wishless, and without activity.

The great Bodhisattva, with a mind endowed with the knowledge of all aspects, cultivates the four mindfulnesses by not focusing on them. Similarly, they cultivate the four right abandonments, the four legs of miraculous power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, the four meditations, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. Kauśika, furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with a mind endowed with the knowledge of all aspects, practices the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom, by not focusing on them. Kauśika, furthermore, when the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the perfection of wisdom, they connect phenomena with phenomena, pacify phenomena with phenomena, perfect them, and increase them, and because of selflessness, all phenomena are just this, devoid of self or what belongs to self. Why is that? It is like this: the mind of the root of virtue of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is not associated with the mind of enlightenment. The mind of dedication is not associated with the mind of enlightenment and the mind of the root of virtue. The mind of enlightenment is not associated with the mind of dedication. Why is that? Kauśika, the mind of enlightenment is not found in the mind of dedication, nor is it perceived. The mind of dedication is not found in the mind of enlightenment, nor is it perceived. Kauśika, in this way, by separately examining all phenomena, not clinging to or focusing on any phenomenon, this is the perfection of wisdom of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Thus it is said.

Having spoken thus, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said to the Venerable Subhuti: "Venerable Subhuti, how is it that the mind of dedication does not accompany the mind of enlightenment? How is it that the mind of enlightenment does not accompany the mind of dedication? How is it that the mind of dedication is not present in and not perceived in the mind of enlightenment? How is it that the mind of enlightenment is not present in and not perceived in the mind of dedication?" Subhuti said: "Kausika, that which is the mind of dedication is not a mind. That which is the mind of enlightenment is also not a mind. Because it is not a mind, it is completely not a mind. Because it is not a mind, there is no dedication. Thus, whatever is not a mind is inconceivable. Whatever is inconceivable is not a mind. Because it is not a mind, there is no dedication. Kausika, this, which is called the Prajnaparamita of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, is the distinct establishment of the sixteen aspects that are the objects of the four truths of the path of the Hearers." Then, the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Subhuti: "Subhuti, well done, well done! Subhuti, you who thus teach and generate joy in the Prajnaparamita for the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, well done, well done!" Subhuti replied: "Blessed One, we should remember the kindness of the Blessed One, and we should not fail to remember the kindness. This is because, in the past, when the Blessed One was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, those Hearers who were present with the Buddhas, the Arhats, the Perfectly Awakened Ones of the past, after instructing, subsequently teaching, correctly teaching, guiding to take up, praising, correctly causing to rejoice, causing to be certain, and causing to abide in the six perfections, when they became Bodhisattvas in the past, it was by training in the six perfections that the Blessed One manifested complete and unsurpassed perfect enlightenment.
