Whatever it may be, and the object of merit endowed with rejoicing after all sentient beings, and the object of merit arising from the giving of those who have entered the vehicle of the Hearers, and those who have entered the vehicle of the Solitary Buddhas, and the object of merit arising from ethics, and the object of merit arising from meditation, from those, the object of merit endowed with rejoicing after the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, made common with all sentient beings, and completely dedicated to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, this is called excellent. It is called holy. It is called chief. It is called supreme. It is called most excellent. It is called उत्कृष्ट (utkṛṣṭa). It is called unsurpassed. It is called unequaled. It is called unequal and equal. This is called a special dedication. Chapter Thirty-Five. Why is that? Like this, whatever object of merit arises from the giving of the Hearers and those of the Solitary Buddha vehicle, and arises from ethics, and arises from meditation, all of those abide closely for the sake of taming the self, pacifying the self, and causing the self to completely pass beyond suffering. As many as there are thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, and emptiness, and signlessness, and wishlessness, and the four noble truths, and immeasurables, and meditations, and formless absorptions, and the eight liberations, and the nine serial abidings in absorption, and the four individual correct knowledges, and the six superknowledges, are also for taming the self, and for pacifying the self, and abide closely for the sake of causing the self to completely pass beyond suffering. But the Bodhisattva, for the sake of taming all sentient beings, and for pacifying, and for completely passing beyond suffering, having made the object of merit endowed with rejoicing common with all sentient beings, and dedicating it to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment in a non-objective manner, this is called the act of dedication. Then, the venerable Subhuti.

He spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya: "Maitreya, whatever merit there is of those Buddhas, Bhagavat, countless, immeasurable, and infinite, in the eastern world-realm; likewise, in the southern, western, and northern directions; in the intermediate directions; and in the lower and upper directions, of each and every Buddha, Bhagavat, countless, immeasurable, and infinite, who have passed into complete nirvana; from the time they first generated the thought [of enlightenment] until they manifestly and completely awakened into unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment; and until they passed into complete nirvana in the realm of nirvana without remainder of aggregates; and until the sacred Dharma has not perished, whatever good roots there are that are endowed with the six perfections, how many there are; and whatever Hearer Vehicle practitioners there are; and whatever Solitary Buddha Vehicle practitioners there are; whatever merit-deeds there are that arise from their giving, that arise from their ethics, that arise from their meditation; whatever undefiled good roots of those in training there are; and whatever aggregates of ethics of those Tathagatas there are; and aggregates of meditative stabilization; and aggregates of wisdom; and aggregates of liberation; and aggregates of the wisdom of seeing the liberated; how many there are; and whatever intention to benefit there is; and whatever great love there is; and whatever great compassion there is; and whatever countless, immeasurable, and infinite Buddha-dharmas there are; how many there are; and whatever Dharma was taught by those Buddhas, Bhagavat; how many there are; and those who, having trained in that Dharma teaching, have constantly entered into and attained the fruit of stream-enterer; and have attained the fruit of once-returner; and have attained the fruit of non-returner; and have attained the state of Arhat; and have attained solitary enlightenment; and those Bodhisattvas who have entered without fault, how many good roots there are; and whatever good roots are generated by those Tathagatas, whether they abide or have passed into complete nirvana; all of those, having gathered them into one, I rejoice after them, supreme, excellent, foremost, unsurpassed in offering, without superior, without equal, without unequal."
