Because they are the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who first generated the mind. In each of the ten directions, all the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas in the worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, who have generated the mind for the first time, necessarily arise from this Prajnaparamita. This is the eighth praise. Kausika, furthermore, as many sentient beings as there are in Jambudvipa, if a certain son or daughter of good family places them in the ground of non-retrogression, it is better than a son or daughter of good family who extensively teaches and correctly shows this Prajnaparamita to others in accordance with meaning and letters, and says this: 'Son of good family, you should hold the Prajnaparamita, fully understand it, recite it, be proficient in it, properly attend to it, and be diligent in the Prajnaparamita as it is taught.' In whatever way, as long as you are diligent in the Prajnaparamita as it is taught, if you study the Prajnaparamita in this way, you will abide in non-retrogression, and ultimately you will manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. Kausika, this son or daughter of good family will accumulate much more merit. As many sentient beings as there are in the four continents, as many sentient beings as there are in the thousand worlds, as many sentient beings as there are in the intermediate two thousand worlds, as many sentient beings as there are in the great three thousand worlds, and in each of the ten directions, as many sentient beings as there are in the worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, if a certain son or daughter of good family places them in the ground of non-retrogression, it is better than a son or daughter of good family who extensively teaches and correctly shows this Prajnaparamita to others in accordance with meaning and letters, and says this: 'Son of good family, you should

Son, you should uphold this Prajñāpāramitā. You should fully comprehend it. You should recite it. You should read it. You should properly apply your mind to it. You should diligently engage in the Prajñāpāramitā as it has been taught. If you diligently engage in this, you will abide in the irreversible ground, and eventually you will awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. If you instruct in this way, this itself will greatly increase merit. Kauśika, furthermore, all the sentient beings in Jambudvipa are established in irreversibility from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Among them, if a son or daughter of good family teaches this Prajñāpāramitā in a meaningful and literal way, and clearly elucidates it correctly, explains it in detail, distinguishes it, and teaches it correctly, then among those people, someone will say, "I will quickly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment." If a son or daughter of good family closely teaches this person the Prajñāpāramitā in a vast, meaningful, and literal way, and clearly elucidates it correctly, explains it in detail, distinguishes it, and teaches it correctly, then this itself will greatly increase merit. In each of the ten directions, as many sentient beings as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, if a son or daughter of good family establishes them in irreversibility, and among those people, someone proclaims this Prajñāpāramitā, and someone among those people says, "I will quickly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment," and someone closely teaches this person the Prajñāpāramitā in a meaningful and literal way, clearly elucidates it correctly, explains it in detail, distinguishes it, elaborates on it, and teaches it correctly, then this itself will greatly increase merit. Why is that? Because those irreversible Bodhisattvas are complete.

Because they are certain to attain enlightenment and will not turn back from unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Therefore, it is not necessary to teach the Dharma to them just for that. But this one desires to emerge from samsara and is tormented by great compassion, which is called the ninth praise. These are praises to them. Indra entreated: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva approach unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment? How should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva be taught and instructed in the perfection of wisdom? They should also be taught and instructed in the perfection of meditation, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of patience, the perfection of ethics, and the perfection of generosity. They should be taught and instructed in all emptiness. They should be taught and instructed in the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four legs of magical power, the faculties, the powers, the branches of enlightenment, and the paths. They should be taught and instructed in the immeasurables, the meditations, the formless absorptions, the noble truths, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. They should be taught and instructed in the eight liberations, the nine progressive abidings, and the superknowledges. They should be taught and instructed in all samadhis, all dharani gates, the powers of the Tathagata, the fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. They should also be supported with clothing, alms, bedding, medicine for sickness, and provisions. Blessed One, the merit of a son or daughter of good family who is supported by a Bodhisattva Mahasattva with Dharma and material things will increase even more. What is the reason for that? Blessed One, because in this way
