If someone were to place Arhats in between, Kauśika, what do you think? Would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase because of that? Indra replied: Blessed One, it would increase. Sugata, it would increase. The Blessed One said: Kauśika, even more so, whatever son or daughter of good family holds this Prajñāpāramitā with meaning and letters, and extensively, correctly, and thoroughly elucidates it to others, explains it, distinguishes it, clarifies it, and correctly teaches it, and says this: 'Come, son of good family, hold this Prajñāpāramitā, fully understand it, contain it, immerse yourself in it, properly direct your mind to it, and diligently practice the Prajñāpāramitā as it is taught.' If they exhort in this way, then their merit will increase even more. Why is that? Kauśika, because from this Prajñāpāramitā, there will arise once-returners, non-returners, and Arhats. This is the third example of praise. Kauśika, furthermore, in each of the ten directions, in each direction, as many sentient beings as there are in the world systems of Buddha-fields equal to the sands of the Ganges, if someone were to place them in the Nirvana of Pratyekabuddhas, Kauśika, what do you think? Would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase because of that? Indra replied: Blessed One, it would increase. Sugata, it would increase. The Blessed One said: Kauśika, even more so, whatever son or daughter of good family holds this Prajñāpāramitā with meaning and letters, and extensively speaks and teaches it to others, correctly and thoroughly elucidates it, explains it, distinguishes it, clarifies it, and correctly teaches it, and says this: 'Come, son of good family, hold this Prajñāpāramitā, fully understand it, contain it, immerse yourself in it, properly direct your mind to it, and diligently practice the Prajñāpāramitā as it is taught.'

If given to others, then this will increase merit more than those. What is the reason for that? Kausika, because from this Prajnaparamita, Pratyekabuddhas arise, this is called the fourth praise. Kausika, furthermore, if some of the sons or daughters of good family among as many sentient beings as there are in Jambudvipa encourage them to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, Kausika, what do you think? Will the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase because of that? Indra replied: Bhagavan, many. Sugata, many. The Bhagavan said: Kausika, even more than that, whichever son or daughter of good family widely speaks to others about this Prajnaparamita that is meaningful and literal, and truly makes the teachings completely clear, distinguishes and separates them, makes them clear and truly teaches them, and says this: You should hold the Prajnaparamita! You should fully understand it! You should recite it! You should master it! You should properly contemplate it! You should diligently practice the Prajnaparamita as it is taught! Son of good family, however you diligently practice the Prajnaparamita as it is taught, son of good family, you will attain omniscience in that way. However you attain omniscience, you will cultivate and perfect the Prajnaparamita even more in that way. However you cultivate and perfect the Prajnaparamita, you will manifest complete enlightenment in unsurpassed perfect enlightenment in that way, if you exhort in this way, that person's merit will increase even more. What is the reason for that? Kausika, because from this arise the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who first generate the mind.

Therefore, all that exists in the place of the initial generation of the mind necessarily arises from this Perfection of Wisdom, which is called the fifth praise. As many sentient beings as there are in the four continents, this is called the sixth praise. As many sentient beings as there are in the small chiliocosm, this is called the seventh praise. Furthermore, as many sentient beings as there are in the intermediate two-thousandfold world and the great three-thousandfold world. Kauśika, furthermore, in each of the ten directions, as many sentient beings as there are in the world realms equal to the sands of the Ganges River, if any son or daughter of good family encourages them to be perfectly awakened to unsurpassed and complete enlightenment, Kauśika, what do you think? Will the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? Indra replied: Blessed One, it is very much. Sugata, it is very much. The Blessed One said: Kauśika, even more so, if any son or daughter of good family, with meaning and letters, extensively teaches and correctly explains this Perfection of Wisdom to others, and says this: Come, son of good family, hold this Perfection of Wisdom! Fully understand it! Recite it! Read it thoroughly! Properly attend to it! Be diligent in the Perfection of Wisdom as it is taught! Son of good family, the more diligent you are in the Perfection of Wisdom as it is taught, the more you will attain omniscience. The more you perfect omniscience, the more you will perfect the practice of the Perfection of Wisdom. The more you perfect the practice of the Perfection of Wisdom, the sooner you will manifest complete and unsurpassed enlightenment and become a Buddha. If taught in this way, then his merit will increase even more. Why is that? Kauśika, because the mind arises from here.
