If placed in, Kauśika, what do you think? Would the merit of that son or daughter increase greatly because of that? Indra replied: Blessed One, much. Sugata, much. The Blessed One said: Kauśika, even more than that, whichever son or daughter writes down this Prajñāpāramitā and makes it into a scripture, copying it when young, and gives it to others for recitation, merit will increase greatly. Why is that? Kauśika, this is because, like this, what arises from the Prajñāpāramitā are all the Dharmas of the Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, and all the Dharmas of the Buddhas. Kauśika, let alone placing the sentient beings of the four great continents of the world in the path of the ten virtuous actions, and even in Pratyekabodhi itself. Kauśika, however many sentient beings there are in a thousand world realms, whichever son or daughter thoroughly places them in the path of the ten virtuous actions, and in the fruit of stream-entry, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, Arhatship, and in Pratyekabodhi, even more than that, whichever son or daughter writes down this Prajñāpāramitā and makes it into a scripture, copying it when young, and gives it to others for recitation, merit will increase very much. Kauśika, let alone placing the sentient beings of a thousand world realms in Pratyekabodhi. Kauśika, however many sentient beings there are in the two thousand intermediate world realms, whichever son or daughter thoroughly places them in the path of the ten virtuous actions, and even in Pratyekabodhi, Kauśika, what do you think? Would the merit of that son or daughter increase greatly because of that? Indra replied: Blessed One, much. Sugata, much. Kausika, let alone arranging the beings of the three thousand great thousand world systems up to their own enlightenment. Kausika, even more than if someone were to thoroughly establish all the beings in the ten directions, in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, in the path of the ten virtuous actions, and thoroughly establish them up to their own enlightenment, the merit of any son or daughter of good family who writes down this Perfection of Wisdom, makes it into a book, and even if it is a small amount of writing, gives it to others for the sake of reading, Kausika, the merit of this son or daughter of good family will increase greatly even more than that. Why is that? Because this Perfection of Wisdom extensively teaches the undefiled dharmas, and having learned them, those sons or daughters of good family will enter the correct path without error. They enter, they will enter. They will attain up to the state of Arhatship. They attain, they will attain. They will attain. They will attain their own enlightenment. They attain, they will attain. Bodhisattvas, great beings, will also enter the Bodhisattva path without error. They enter, they will enter. The four truths, inner emptiness, outer emptiness, inner-outer emptiness, emptiness of emptiness, up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things, the immeasurables, the samādhis, the doors of dhāraṇīs, the formless attainments, the ten powers of the Thus-Gone Ones, up to the immeasurable qualities of the Buddhas, are extensively taught from the Perfection of Wisdom by the Thus-Gone Ones, the Arhats, the Perfectly Awakened Buddhas. Kauśika, any son or daughter of good family who writes down this Perfection of Wisdom, makes it into a book, and gives it to others for writing and reading, should know that their merit will increase even more because of it. Why is that? Kauśika, it is because all dharmas are extensively taught from this Perfection of Wisdom. Because of their existence, there are great Śāla families of kṣatriyas, great Śāla families of brahmins, and great Śāla families of householders. There are gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings. There are gods up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. There are the perfections. There are the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. Up to all-knowingness. There are the fruits of stream-enterers. There are once-returners, non-returners, arhats, and solitary Buddhas. There are the Thus-Gone Ones, the Arhats, the Perfectly Awakened Buddhas. Kauśika, furthermore, if any son or daughter of good family places as many beings as there are in Jambudvīpa in the four dhyānas, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, and the five superknowledges, what do you think, Kauśika? Does the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? Indra replied: Blessed One, it is much. Well-Gone One, it is much.
