May there be no arising of feeling. May there be no arising of perception. May there be no arising of formations. May there be no arising of the sound of consciousness. One should not abide thus. May there be no arising of the sound of the perfection of generosity. Likewise, may there be no arising of the perfection of ethics. May there be no arising of the perfection of patience. May there be no arising of the perfection of diligence. May there be no arising of the perfection of meditation. May there be no arising of the sound of the perfection of wisdom. One should not abide thus. May there be no arising of the sound of the mindfulnesses. And the right abandonments, and the supports of magical power, and the faculties, and the powers, and the limbs of enlightenment, and the path, and the immeasurables, and the meditations, and the formless absorptions, and the superknowledges, and the noble truths, and the ten powers, and the fearlessnesses, and the individual correct knowledges, and the eighteen unmixed qualities of a buddha, may there be no arising of the sound of these. From there, likewise, of the stream-enterer, and of the once-returner, and of the non-returner, and of the arhat, and of the solitary buddha, and of the bodhisattva, may there be no arising of even the sound of the solitary buddha. One should not abide thus. Thus, it should be expanded. Why is that? Thus, the tathāgata, the arhat, the perfectly complete buddha, having manifestly awakened to the unsurpassed perfectly complete enlightenment, because all dharmas are unobservable. Kauśika, thus a bodhisattva mahāsattva should not abide in a way that focuses on the perfection of wisdom. Then, the venerable Śāriputra thought to himself, "How should a bodhisattva mahāsattva abide in the perfection of wisdom?" Then again, the venerable Subhūti, knowing with his mind the mental discrimination of the venerable Śāriputra, said to the venerable Śāriputra, "Venerable Śāriputra, what do you think? What does the tathāgata abide in?" He said, "Venerable Subhūti, that

The Sugata does not abide in anything whatsoever. That is, he does not abide in form, he does not abide in feeling, he does not abide in perception, he does not abide in formations, he does not abide in consciousnesses, he does not abide in the conditioned realm, he does not abide in the unconditioned realm, he does not abide in the aggregates, elements, sense sources, and limbs of dependent origination, he does not abide in the perfections, he does not abide in the factors of enlightenment, he does not abide in the immeasurables, he does not abide in the meditations, he does not abide in the formless attainments, he does not abide in the superknowledges, he does not abide in the truths, he does not abide in all emptiness, he does not abide in all samādhis, he does not abide in all samādhis, he does not abide in all dhāraṇī gates, he does not abide in the powers, fearlessnesses, analytical knowledges, and unmixed qualities of the Buddha, he does not abide in omniscience, because the mind of the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One does not abide at all. Twenty-eighth fascicle. Then again, the venerable Subhūti said this to the venerable Śāriputra: Venerable Śāriputra, a bodhisattva mahāsattva should abide in the Perfection of Wisdom in this way: just as the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One does not abide in form, nor does he not abide. He does not abide in feeling, he does not abide in perception, he does not abide in formations, he does not abide in consciousness, nor does he not abide. Venerable Śāriputra, thus a bodhisattva mahāsattva should abide in the Perfection of Wisdom, he will abide in the manner of non-abiding, which is the supreme of dharmas. These have shown the path of the śrāvakas. The Path of the Solitary Buddha. Then again, some sons of the gods from those assemblies thought thus: Whatever the yakṣas say in the language of yakṣas, the words of yakṣas, the speech of yakṣas, and the designations of yakṣas, those are spoken

If it has happened, then it can be known. Whatever the venerable Subhuti speaks, elaborates, teaches, and closely teaches the Perfection of Wisdom, I think that is unknowable. Then, the venerable Subhuti, knowing the thoughts of those gods' minds with his mind, said to those gods: Gods, is what is said unknowable? The gods said: Venerable Subhuti, it is unknowable. Subhuti said: Gods, in this way, not even a single letter is spoken; whatever is not spoken, that is not audible. Whatever is not audible, that is unknowable. Why is that? The Perfection of Wisdom is not a letter; therefore, there is no knowing, no hearing, no speaking. The enlightenment of the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones is also without letters. Gods, it is like this: for example, if an emanation of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One emanates, and he also manifests the fourfold assembly of monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen, and then he teaches the Dharma to those four assemblies, gods, what do you think of that? Is there anyone there who has taught, heard, or known? The gods said: Venerable Subhuti, that is not so. Subhuti said: Gods, likewise, all dharmas are like illusions; there, no one teaches, no one hears, no one knows. Gods, it is like this: for example, if a person, having fallen asleep, sees in a dream a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One teaching the Dharma, gods, what do you think of that? Is there anyone there who has taught, heard, or known? The gods said: Venerable Subhuti, that is not so. Subhuti said: Gods, likewise, all dharmas are like dreams; there, no one teaches, no one hears, no one knows. Gods, it is like this: for example, if two people are sitting in a mountain valley,
