Then Kausika said to the Blessed One: "O Blessed One, how shall I know whether sons or daughters of good family, in any of the ten directions, in any world-system, are being visited here by the sons of the gods of the four great kings, and by the sons of the gods up to Akanistha, for the sake of taking up, keeping, reciting, mastering, honouring, respecting, esteeming, and worshipping this perfection of wisdom?" When this had been said, the Blessed One addressed Indra, the lord of the gods, as follows: "Kausika, if sons or daughters of good family see great light, then they should know for certain that mighty gods have come here for the sake of reciting, taking up, mastering, keeping, honouring, respecting, esteeming, worshipping, bowing down to, and saluting this perfection of wisdom. Again, Kausika, if sons or daughters of good family experience a divine scent, surpassing human scent, which they have never before carried or enjoyed, then they should know for certain that mighty sons of the gods have come here for the sake of reciting, listening to, taking up, keeping, mastering, honouring, respecting, esteeming, and worshipping this perfection of wisdom. Again, Kausika, if sons or daughters of good family become endowed with pure conduct, then through that pure conduct those gods draw near, and they will be exceedingly pleased to take up, keep, recite, master, honour, respect, esteem, and worship this perfection of wisdom. And those gods of small power who dwell in that region will think of moving away from there, because they cannot endure the glory, the splendour, and the overpowering might of those mighty gods.
