What is gratitude? When a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, even a small benefit is not abandoned until the end of samsara, let alone a great one. This is how a Bodhisattva Mahasattva knows and repays kindness. What is it for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to abide in the power of patience? It is the mind that has no intention to harm or injure all sentient beings. This is how a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the power of patience. What is it for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to experience great joy and delight? It is that which completely ripens all sentient beings in the three vehicles. This is what a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should experience as great joy and delight. What is it for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to never abandon all sentient beings? It is that which completely protects all sentient beings. This is how a Bodhisattva Mahasattva never abandons all sentient beings. What is it for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to manifest great compassion? When a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, he thinks like this: For the benefit of each and every sentient being, I will abide in the hells for as many kalpas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, until all sentient beings are placed on the path of the Buddha's wisdom. During that time, I will experience being cut, split, beaten, cooked, burned, and so on. In this way, for the benefit of all sentient beings, being joyful and without weariness, this is the great compassion that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should manifest. What is it for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to revere with faith? It is when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva subdues all arrogance and thereby truly prostrates. How does one generate the perception of seeing the gurus as the Buddha? This means that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should attend to and respectfully serve the guru with faith. What does it mean for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to diligently seek the Paramitas? It means seeking the Paramitas entirely without any other purpose than to fully ripen all sentient beings. This is the Bodhisattva's diligent seeking of the Paramitas. What does it mean for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to never be satisfied with much learning? It means never being satisfied with the thought that all that the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, have taught in this world or in the worlds of all ten directions should be fully grasped. This is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva's lack of satisfaction with much learning. What does it mean for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to purely distinguish the Dharma giving without any mixture? It means that when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva teaches the Dharma, they do not even hope for enlightenment from that small Dharma giving. This is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva's pure distinction of the Dharma giving without any mixture. What does it mean for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to generate and fully dedicate the roots of virtue for the complete purification of the Buddha-field? It means fully dedicating those roots of virtue with which one purifies the Buddha-field and tames one's own and others' minds. This is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva's generation and full dedication of the roots of virtue for the complete purification of the Buddha-field. What does it mean for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva to never be weary of the immeasurable Samsara? It means that if one shows the roots of virtue by which sentient beings become fully ripened and the Buddha-field becomes completely purified, one never becomes weary until the omniscient nature is not completely perfected.
