It is the wisdom that knows that the eye is impermanent, and so on, to the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind being impermanent, and then to the five aggregates, the eighteen realms, the twelve sources, and the twelve links of dependent origination, both individually and collectively. This is the wisdom of following. What is conventional wisdom? It is the wisdom that knows the minds of other beings and individuals by mind. This is conventional wisdom. What is the wisdom of complete familiarity? It is the wisdom that is completely familiar with the path. This is the wisdom of familiarity. What is the wisdom of as-it-is speech? It is the wisdom that knows the wisdom of the Tathagata's all-knowingness in a non-attached way. This is called the wisdom of as-it-is speech. Subhuti, this is also the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is as follows: There are three faculties. What are the three? They are the faculty of making the unknown known, the faculty of knowing, and the faculty of protecting the known. What is the faculty of making the unknown known? It is the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, and the faculty of wisdom that are fully manifest and subdue those who are learners who have not yet attained realization. This is called the faculty of making the unknown known. What is the faculty of knowing? It is the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, and the faculty of wisdom that are manifest and subdue those learners who possess all knowledge. This is called the faculty of knowing. What is the faculty of protecting the known? It is the faculty of the non-learner, the Arhat, the Pratyekabuddha, the Bodhisattva, and the Tathagata.

Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwells, having attained the first dhyana, which is born of detachment, with joy and bliss, being detached from desires and detached from evil and unwholesome dharmas, with vitarka and vicara. This is called the samadhi with vitarka and vicara. What is the samadhi without vitarka but with only vicara?
