I and what I own are empty. The mindfulnesses are also empty of I and what I own. The right abandonments, the feet of magical power, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the paths, up to the unmixed qualities of the Buddhas, are empty of I and what I own. If one becomes manifestly, completely enlightened in unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, what else is there to do? Such demonic actions of saying such things, not speaking of them as demonic, not showing them as demonic actions, should be known as the evil friends of a bodhisattva mahāsattva. Furthermore, Subhūti, some evil demons, having made the guise of a solitary buddha, go to the bodhisattva mahāsattva and say this: 'Son of good family, the eastern direction is empty of buddhas, bhagavats, bodhisattvas, and śrāvakas. Here there is no such thing as a buddha. There is no such thing as a bodhisattva. There is no such thing as a śrāvaka.' The southern, western, northern, northeastern, southeastern, southwestern, northwestern, lower, and upper directions, all ten directions, are empty of buddhas, bhagavats, bodhisattvas, and śrāvakas. Here there is no such thing as a buddha. There is no such thing as a bodhisattva. There is no such thing as a śrāvaka.' Such demonic actions of saying such things, not speaking of them as demonic, not showing them as demonic actions, should be known as the evil friends of a bodhisattva mahāsattva. Furthermore, Subhūti, some evil demons, having made the guise of a śrāvaka, go to the bodhisattva mahāsattva and turn them away from the attention endowed with all-knowingness, and advise and teach them with the attention endowed with śrāvakas and solitary buddhas. Suppose, combining with the establishments of mindfulness, combining with the perfect abandonments, combining with the legs of magical power, combining with the faculties, combining with the powers, combining with the limbs of enlightenment, combining with the noble eightfold path, combining with the dharmas between emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. Thus, son of good family, you completely cultivate those dharmas, realize the ground of the Hearers, what will unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment do for you? Such deeds of Mara, not speaking, not showing, should be known as the evil friend of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Furthermore, son of good family, evil Maras, having made the appearance of father and mother, go to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva and say: What will you do by perfectly awakening into unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment? For that purpose, you wander in samsara for immeasurable countless eons, and you will be afflicted by immeasurable cutting off of limbs and head. Strive for that which can realize the fruit of entering the stream, that which can realize the fruit of once returning, that which can realize the fruit of non-returning, and that which can realize the fruit of the Arhat! Such deeds of Mara, not speaking, not showing, should be known as the evil friend of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva.
