Instructions on the Oral Teachings. Instructions on the Oral Teachings. Instructions for Practice. Thus spoken, the venerable Shariputra addressed the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, how should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice the Perfection of Wisdom? Thus addressed, the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Shariputra, saying: Shariputra, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, although the Bodhisattva exists, he does not truly see the Bodhisattva. He does not truly see the name of the Bodhisattva. He does not truly see enlightenment. He does not truly see the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not truly see the name of the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not truly see 'practice'. He does not truly see 'non-practice'. He does not truly see 'practice as practice, non-practice as non-practice'. He does not truly see 'neither practice nor non-practice'. He does not truly see form. Likewise, he does not truly see feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. Why is this? Shariputra, thus, the Bodhisattva is also empty of the nature of the Bodhisattva. The name of the Bodhisattva is also empty of the name of the Bodhisattva. Why is this? Its nature is such that form is not empty by emptiness. Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are not empty by emptiness. Why is this? Whatever is the emptiness of form is not form. Whatever is the emptiness of feeling is not feeling. Whatever is the emptiness of perception is not perception. Whatever is the emptiness of formations is not formations. Whatever is the emptiness of consciousness is not consciousness. Emptiness is apart from form.

Also not. Other than feeling, there is no emptiness. Other than feeling, there is no emptiness. Other than perception, there is no emptiness. Other than formations, there is no emptiness. Other than consciousness, there is no emptiness. Why is that? Form itself is emptiness. Feeling itself is emptiness. Perception itself is emptiness. Formations themselves are emptiness. Consciousness itself is emptiness. Emptiness itself is form. Emptiness itself is feeling. Emptiness itself is perception. Emptiness itself is formations. Emptiness itself is consciousness. Why is that? Like this, the term "Bodhisattva" is just a name. Like this, the term "Perfection of Wisdom" is just a name. Like this, the terms "Form, Feeling, Perception, Formations, and Consciousness" are just names. Like this, form is like an illusion. Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are like illusions. Illusion is also just a name; it does not abide in a place, nor does it abide in a direction. Seeing an illusion is like seeing something that is inseparable from Suchness. Intrinsic nature is without arising, without ceasing, without defilement, without purification. Thus, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom does not truly see arising in any dharma, nor does he truly see ceasing, nor does he truly see defilement, nor does he truly see purification. Why is that? Like this, names are artificial constructs applied to individual dharmas, and those are also imputed; names are used as designations for adventitious things. All those names are not truly seen by a Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom. Because they are not truly seen, they are not clung to. Shariputra, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he thoroughly contemplates in this way: Like this, the term "Bodhisattva" is just a name.

Thus, "Bodhi" is just a name. Thus, "Prajnaparamita" is just a name. Thus, "Form" is just a name. Thus, "Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness" are just names. Shariputra, for example, "I, I" is spoken in conventional terms, but the self is unattainable. It is not a sentient being, not a life, not a nourisher, not a person, not an individual, not born of power, the son of power is unattainable, because it is unattainable, it is emptiness. Why is that? Thus, whatever a Bodhisattva becomes manifestly attached to is also unattainable. Shariputra, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices in this way is practicing Prajnaparamita. Shariputra, if this Jambudvipa were filled entirely with monks Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, like a reed forest, or a sugarcane forest, or a sugar tree forest, or a bamboo forest, or a rice field, or a sesame field, however full it may be, the wisdom of those individuals would not even come close to one hundredth part of the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices Prajnaparamita, even if cultivated for a single day. Not even close to a thousandth part, a hundred thousandth part, or even a hundred millionth part, in number, in fraction, in calculation, in cause, or in simile. Shariputra, the wisdom of a Bodhisattva who practices Prajnaparamita in this way, cultivated for a single day, surpasses the wisdom of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Why is that? Shariputra, the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is directed towards the complete Nirvana of all sentient beings, but the wisdom of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is not like that. Shariputra, let alone Jambudvipa being filled entirely with monks like Shariputra and Maudgalyayana. Shariputra, if the realm of the three thousand great thousand worlds were filled with monks
