O brave one, the wisdom of a great bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, even if meditated upon for a single day, does not approach even a hundredth part. Not even a thousandth part. Not even a hundred thousandth part. Not even in number. Not even in part. Not even in calculation. Not even in cause. Not even in example. Shariputra, if the world in the southwest direction were filled with monks as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, all like Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, for example, a reed forest, or a kusha grass forest, or a sugarcane forest, or a bamboo forest, or a rice field, or a sesame field, whatever wisdom they possess, does not approach even a hundredth part of the wisdom of a bodhisattva mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, even if meditated upon for a single day. Not even a thousandth part. Not even a hundred thousandth part. Not even in number. Not even in part. Not even in calculation. Not even in cause. Not even in example. Shariputra, if the world in the northwest direction were filled with monks as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, all like Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, for example, a reed forest, or a kusha grass forest, or a sugarcane forest, or a bamboo forest, or a rice field, or a sesame field, whatever wisdom they possess, does not approach even a hundredth part of the wisdom of a bodhisattva mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, even if meditated upon for a single day. Not even a thousandth part. Not even a hundred thousandth part. Not even in number. Not even in part. Not even in calculation. Not even in cause. Not even in example. Shariputra, if the world in the downward direction were filled with monks as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, all like Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, for example, a reed forest, or a kusha grass forest, or a sugarcane forest, or a bamboo forest, or a rice field, or a sesame field, whatever wisdom they possess, does not approach even a hundredth part of the wisdom of a bodhisattva mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, even if meditated upon for a single day.

Nor can it be counted, nor can it be a cause, nor can it be closely approached as an example. Shariputra, if the world realms in the upward direction were as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, and if all the monks were like Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, for example, like a reed thicket, or a sugarcane thicket, or a sugarcane forest, or a bamboo forest, or a rice field, or a sesame field, completely filled, whatever wisdom those beings possess, it would not even come close to one-hundredth part of the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the Perfection of Wisdom for one day. Not even a thousandth part, not even a hundred thousandth part, not even in number, not even in part, not even in counting, not even in cause, not even in example. Then, the venerable Shariputra said to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, the wisdom of a stream-enterer, a once-returner, a non-returner, an Arhat, and also the wisdom of a Pratyekabuddha, and the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, and the wisdom of a Tathagata Arhat Samyak-sambuddha, all these wisdoms are without distinction, solitary, unborn, without essence, emptiness. Bhagavan, if there is no difference or distinction in what is without distinction, solitary, unborn, without essence, emptiness, then, Bhagavan, how can a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the Perfection of Wisdom for one day surpass the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas?" After he asked this, the Bhagavan said to the venerable Shariputra: "Shariputra, what do you think? A Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the Perfection of Wisdom for one day, is practicing for the sake of the supreme all-knowingness endowed with all aspects, for the purpose of benefiting all sentient beings, for the purpose of completely awakening all dharmas in all aspects, for the purpose of completely liberating all sentient beings from suffering, abiding for the sake of that fruit, for that purpose, the Shravakas and
