Impermanence, and what is called suffering, and what is called selflessness, and peace, and solitude, and emptiness, and signlessness, and wishlessness, teaching the Dharma in a way that does not cling to these, and all those roots of virtue, except for omniscience, are not allowed to be completely gathered into the Hearer's ground or the Solitary Buddha's ground. Subhuti, this should be recognized as the spiritual friend of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who is completely taken care of by that spiritual friend, upon hearing this exposition of the Perfection of Wisdom, will not be alarmed, will not be completely frightened, and will not become associated with complete fear. Subhuti asked: Bhagavan, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, who, upon hearing this exposition of the Perfection of Wisdom, becomes alarmed, completely frightened, and associated with complete fear, becomes unskilled in means, and falls into the hands of evil friends? The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, here, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, because of being without the attention that is endowed with all-knowingness, he cultivates and focuses on the Perfection of Wisdom, and also becomes conceited with the Perfection of Wisdom; because of being without the attention that is endowed with all-knowingness, he cultivates and focuses on the Perfection of Concentration, and also becomes conceited with the Perfection of Concentration; because of being without the attention that is endowed with all-knowingness, he cultivates and focuses on the Perfection of Diligence, and also becomes conceited with the Perfection of Diligence; because of being without the attention that is endowed with all-knowingness, he cultivates and focuses on the Perfection of Patience, and also becomes conceited with the Perfection of Patience; because of being without the attention that is endowed with all-knowingness, he cultivates and focuses on the Perfection of Morality, and also becomes conceited with the Perfection of Morality.
