Shariputra, this is the faultlessness of a bodhisattva, a great being, who practices the perfection of wisdom. This is, with respect to the truth of cessation, the distinction of the object and aspect of the minor heat position. Furthermore, Shariputra, endowed with life, a bodhisattva, a great being, who practices the perfection of wisdom, should train in this way: When training, one should definitely know form, but one should not become conceited because of that. One should know feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, but one should not become conceited because of those. One should know the eye, but one should not become conceited because of that. Similarly, one should know the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, but one should not become conceited because of those. One should know form, but one should not become conceited because of that. One should know sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena, but one should not become conceited because of those. One should know the perfection of generosity, but one should not become conceited because of that. One should know the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom, but one should not become conceited because of the perfection of wisdom. Similarly, one should know the five superknowledges, the five eyes, and mindfulness.

These should be known, and one should not be arrogant about them. Chapter Nine, one should know the proper abandonment, as well as the miraculous feet, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path, and one should not be arrogant about them. One should know the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four specific perfect knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, and one should not be arrogant about them. Shariputra, endowed with life, thus, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, one should know what is called the mind of enlightenment, what is called unequal and equal, and what is called the vast mind, and one should not be arrogant about them. Why is that? Because this mind is not a mind, for the nature of mind is luminosity. Shariputra said: "Subhuti, endowed with life, what is the luminous nature of mind?" Subhuti said: "Shariputra, endowed with life, whatever mind is associated with desire is neither associated nor disassociated; associated with hatred is neither associated nor disassociated; associated with ignorance is neither associated nor disassociated; associated with all arising is neither associated nor disassociated; associated with all objects is neither associated nor disassociated; associated with all latent tendencies is neither associated nor disassociated; associated with all bonds is neither associated nor disassociated; associated with all views is neither associated nor disassociated; associated with the mind of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas is neither associated nor disassociated. This, Shariputra, endowed with life, is the luminous nature of the mind of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva." Shariputra said: "Subhuti, endowed with life, does that which is called the mind without mind exist?" Subhuti said: "Shariputra, endowed with life, do you think that for that which is the nature of mindlessness, existence or non-existence exists or can be observed?" Shariputra said: "Subhuti, endowed with life, it is not so." Subhuti said: "Shariputra, endowed with life, if for that which is the nature of mindlessness, existence or non-existence does not exist or is unobservable,

Nana. Venerable Shariputra, is it appropriate to say or ask, "Does that which you call 'mind without mind' exist?" Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, what is 'mind without mind'? Subhuti said: Venerable Shariputra, that which is the suchness of all dharmas, unchanging and without discrimination, that is 'mind without mind'; this is what is called 'mind without mind.' Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, just as the mind is unchanging and without discrimination, is form also unchanging and without discrimination? Is feeling also unchanging and without discrimination? Is perception also unchanging and without discrimination? Are volitions also unchanging and without discrimination? Is consciousness also unchanging and without discrimination? Likewise, are the eye element, the form element, and the eye consciousness element also unchanging and without discrimination? Are the ear element, the sound element, and the ear consciousness element also unchanging and without discrimination? Are the nose element, the smell element, and the nose consciousness element also unchanging and without discrimination? Are the tongue element, the taste element, and the tongue consciousness element also unchanging and without discrimination? Are the body element, the touch element, and the body consciousness element also unchanging and without discrimination? Are the mind element, the dharma element, and the mind consciousness element also unchanging and without discrimination? Likewise, are the sense bases, the elements, dependent origination, the perfections, the superknowledges, the mindfulnesses, the right abandonments, the legs of magical power, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, the noble eightfold path, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the unshared qualities of the Buddhas, up to unsurpassed perfect
