Unborn, without essence, is emptiness. World Honored One, there is no difference, peaceful, unborn, without essence, is there a distinction to be made for emptiness? If there is no special difference, then World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice Prajnaparamita, by practicing a single umbrella of wisdom, be able to overwhelm the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas? After asking in this way, the World Honored One said to the Venerable Shariputra: Shariputra, what do you think? A Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices Prajnaparamita, practicing wisdom for one day, corresponding to the most excellent of all kinds of all-knowing wisdom, I, in order to benefit all sentient beings, will manifest complete enlightenment of all dharmas in all ways, completely liberate all sentient beings from suffering, for the sake of this fruit's benefit, do the wisdoms of the Shravakas and all Pratyekabuddhas come close to this benefit? Shariputra replied: World Honored One, it is not so. The World Honored One said: Shariputra, what do you think? Do all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas think in this way, that after we manifest unexcelled perfect complete enlightenment, we will completely liberate all sentient beings from suffering in the realm of nirvana without remainder? Shariputra replied: World Honored One, it is not so. The World Honored One said: Shariputra, therefore, you should also understand in this way, that all the wisdom of these Shravakas and all Pratyekabuddhas, compared to the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing for one day, cannot even come close to one percent. One thousandth, one millionth, in quantity, in part, in calculation, in cause, in metaphor, it cannot come close. Shariputra, what do you think? Do all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas think in this way, that we will practice the six perfections, ripen sentient beings, and become Buddhas?

Having purified the Buddha-field completely, having perfected the ten powers of the Thus-Gone One, as well as the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and having perfected the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, having manifestly awakened into unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, does one think of completely liberating immeasurable, countless, limitless sentient beings from suffering? Shariputra replied: "That is not so, Blessed One." The Blessed One said: "Shariputra, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva thinks thus: 'Having practiced the six perfections, having completely ripened sentient beings, having purified the Buddha-field completely, having perfected the ten powers of the Thus-Gone One, as well as the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and having perfected the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, having manifestly awakened into unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, I shall completely liberate immeasurable, countless, limitless sentient beings from suffering.' Shariputra, for example, a firefly, a type of creature, does not think thus: 'I shall illuminate the entire Jambudvipa with my light.' 'I shall illuminate Jambudvipa with my light.' Shariputra, likewise, all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not think thus: 'We shall practice the six perfections, completely ripen sentient beings, purify the Buddha-field completely, perfect the ten powers of the Thus-Gone One, as well as the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and perfect the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, and having manifestly awakened into unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, we shall completely liberate immeasurable, countless, limitless sentient beings from suffering.'

illuminates the entire Jambudvipa with light. Shariputra, similarly, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the six perfections. Having fully ripened sentient beings and fully purified the Buddha-field, having fully accomplished the ten powers of the Tathagata, as well as the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, thereby manifestly and perfectly awakening to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, he leads immeasurable, countless, limitless sentient beings to complete nirvana. Having spoken thus, the venerable Shariputra addressed the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva surpass all the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, attain the ground of a non-retreating Bodhisattva, and fully train in the path of a Bodhisattva? Having thus spoken, the Blessed One said to the venerable Shariputra: Shariputra, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, from the arising of the first thought onwards, having taken up the practice of the six perfections, abides in the Dharma of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, thereby surpassing the ground of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, attaining the ground of a non-retreating Bodhisattva, and also fully training in the path of enlightenment. Having spoken thus, the venerable Shariputra addressed the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, in what place does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva constantly and uninterruptedly become the object of giving for all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas? Having thus spoken, the Blessed One said to the venerable Shariputra: Shariputra, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, practicing the six perfections, from the arising of the first thought onwards, until sitting at the essence of enlightenment, here constantly and uninterruptedly becomes the object of giving for all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas.
