The Perfection of Wisdom in Twenty-Five Thousand Lines. Chapter One: The Benefit of Omniscience. The Perfection of Wisdom in Twenty-Five Thousand Lines. Chapter One: The Benefit of Omniscience. Introduction. In Sanskrit: Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikāprajñāpāramitā. In Tibetan: The Perfection of Wisdom in Twenty-Five Thousand Lines. Volume One. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Those who seek peace, the Hearers, are led to quiescence by omniscience; those who benefit beings, by knowledge of the path accomplish the affairs of the world; with what do the Buddhas perfectly possess all aspects, and proclaim these various teachings; I pay homage to the mother of the Buddhas, the refuge of the assembly of Hearers and Bodhisattvas! Those sons of the Conquerors who have conceived the mind of enlightenment in order to liberate all beings without exception; and those who, having individually realized enlightenment, again practice the unsurpassed yoga; disciples and those who follow the path of disciples, those beings who subdue the afflictions; in order to hear all those excellent teachings, may you come here with joyful minds! Because this time is not like that, due to many impurities, these are the beings; views are extremely unwholesome, attachment, hatred, and delusion are greatly increased and unstable; life is also not long, and because of darkness there is no light free from defilement, therefore, this sutra, which is not an object of doubt, alas! is difficult to obtain, therefore I distinguish it with wisdom. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling on Vulture Peak Mountain in Rajagriha. Together with a great monastic community of five thousand monks, all of whom were Arhats, those who had exhausted the outflows, without afflictions, having attained mastery, whose minds were completely liberated, whose wisdom was completely liberated, knowledgeable ones, great elephants, having done what was to be done, having done what had been done, having abandoned the burden, having fully attained their own benefit, having completely exhausted the bonds of existence, whose minds were completely liberated by perfect knowledge, having attained the supreme accomplishment of having gone beyond all the powers of the mind. Except for one person, namely the venerable Ānanda, who was abiding in the state of a learner.
