I do not desire the fruit of non-returning. I do not desire the unarisen non-returning. I do not desire the fruit of non-returning. I do not desire the unarisen Arhat. I do not desire the fruit of Arhat. I do not desire the unarisen Pratyekabuddha. I do not desire the Pratyekabuddha itself. Shariputra, I, the noble son, do not desire to practice the asceticism practiced by the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva also does not practice with the concept of asceticism. Why is that? Shariputra, because dwelling in the concept of suffering, one cannot work for immeasurable, countless, and boundless beings. Shariputra, however, by generating the concept of mother towards all beings, generating the concept of sister, generating the concept of oneself, and generating the concept of child, one can work for immeasurable, countless, and boundless beings, and that is in a non-attached manner. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva generates the mind in this way. Just as I say "I, I," but in reality, it is non-existent and invisible in all places, at all times, and in all aspects, similarly, one should generate such a concept towards both internal and external dharmas. Even if one generates such a concept, one does not generate the concept of asceticism. Why is that? Because one does not accept any dharma, because it is invisible. Shariputra, I do not desire to attain the unarisen Tathagata. I also do not desire to attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. I also do not desire to turn the wheel of Dharma. I also do not desire to attain the unarisen Dharma with the unarisen. The Blessed One said: Shariputra, is it that one attains the arisen with the unarisen Dharma, or does one attain the unarisen with the arisen Dharma? Subhuti said: Shariputra, I do not desire to attain the unarisen with the arisen Dharma, nor do I desire to attain the arisen with the unarisen Dharma. The Blessed One said: Shariputra, then is there no attainment and no realization? Subhuti said: Shariputra, there is attainment, and there is rea

And there is also realization, but the two are not the same. Venerable Shariputra, attainment or realization is designated by worldly terms. Stream-enterer, or once-returner, or non-returner, or Arhat, or solitary Buddha, or Bodhisattva, or Buddha, are also designated by worldly terms. Ultimately, there is no attainment or realization, no stream-enterer, no once-returner, no non-returner, no Arhat, no solitary Buddha, no Bodhisattva, and no Buddha. Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, can you say the unarisen Dharma, the unarisen Dharma? Subhuti said: Venerable Shariputra, do you dare to say the unarisen Dharma, the unarisen Dharma? Shariputra, I do not have the courage to speak of the unarisen Dharma. Why is that? Shariputra, because in this way, whatever is the unarisen Dharma, whatever is courage, whatever is speech, whatever is unarisen, all these Dharmas are neither concordant nor discordant, neither with form nor visible, without obstruction, of one nature, that is, without nature. Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, speech is also unarisen, courage is also unarisen, Dharma is also unarisen, from what does it arise that those Dharmas of courage are also unarisen? Subhuti said: Shariputra, it is just so, speech is unarisen, courage is unarisen, Dharma is unarisen, from what does it arise that speech and courage are also unarisen? Why is that? Shariputra, because in this way, form is unarisen, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are unarisen. Similarly, the individual and aggregate sources of arising, realms, dependent origination, perfections, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, all emptiness, meditation, immeasurables, formless absorptions, supernormal knowledges, etc.

Samadhi and, all the doors of dharani and, powers and, fearlessness and, individual perfect knowledge and, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, etc., are unborn. Stream-enterer and, once-returner and, non-returner and, arhat and, solitary Buddha and, bodhisattva and, omniscience and, the very knowledge of all aspects are also unborn. Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, it is just so; speaking is unborn. Eloquence is unborn. Dharma is unborn. From what starting point is it said, those qualities of eloquence are also unborn. Skandhas and, dhatus and, ayatanas and, dependent origination and, paramitas and, the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment and, all emptinesses and, samadhi and, all the doors of dharani and, powers and, fearlessness and, individual perfect knowledge and, from the unshared qualities of a Buddha, connecting in that way up to the very knowledge of all aspects, are unborn. Thus, in the terminology of the world, those five destinies are distinct, but in ultimate reality, they are not. Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, obtaining and, what is to be realized through direct perception, exist in the terminology of the world, just so, are those five destinies also distinct in the terminology of the world, but not in ultimate reality? Said: Venerable Shariputra, it is just so; just as obtaining and, direct perception exist in the terminology of the world, just so, are those five destinies also distinct in the terminology of the world, but not in ultimate reality. Why is that? Venerable Shariputra, in ultimate reality, there is neither action, nor the ripening of action, nor birth, nor cessation, nor affliction, nor purification. Said: Venerable Subhuti, will an unborn dharma be born? Or will a born dharma be born? Subhuti said: Venerable Shariputra, I do not desire that even an unborn dharma be born, nor do I desire that a born dharma be born. The Twenty-Five Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom, First.
