It is the same as seeing separation. The essence of reality is unborn, unceasing, without all defilements, without complete purification. A Bodhisattva Mahasattva who thus practices the Perfection of Wisdom does not truly see birth in any dharma, nor does he truly see cessation, nor does he truly see all defilements, nor does he truly see complete purification. Why is that? Thus, name is a false imputation on each and every dharma, and those are also distinctions. Name is an adventitious term of speech. All those names are not truly seen by a Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom. Because they are not truly seen, they are not manifestly attached. Shariputra, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he thoroughly understands in this way: 'This so-called Bodhisattva is merely a name. This so-called Bodhi is merely a name. This so-called Perfection of Wisdom is merely a name. This so-called form is merely a name. This so-called feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are merely names.' Shariputra, for example, although the term 'I, I' is spoken in speech, the 'I' is not found. It is not a sentient being, not life, not a nourisher, not a man, not a person, not one born of power, the son of power is not found, because of non-finding, it is emptiness. Why is that? Thus, a Bodhisattva does not truly perceive that by which he would be manifestly attached. Shariputra, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices in that way is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Shariputra, if this Jambudvipa were completely filled with shravakas Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, like a reed forest, or a radiant forest, or a sugarcane forest, or a bamboo forest, or a rice field, or a sesame field, their...

Whatever wisdom there is, it cannot even approach one percent of the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices the Prajnaparamita, even if they meditate for one day. Not even a thousandth part, a hundred thousandth part, a hundred millionth part, in number, in part, in calculation, in cause, or in simile. Shariputra, thus, whatever wisdom a Bodhisattva who practices the Prajnaparamita cultivates for one day, it overwhelms the wisdom of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Why is that? Shariputra, the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides closely for the sake of completely liberating all sentient beings from suffering, but the wisdom of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is not like that. Shariputra, let alone this Jambudvipa being completely filled with people like the Bhikshu Shariputra and Maudgalyayana. Shariputra, if the three thousand great thousand worlds were completely filled with people like the Bhikshu Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, like a reed forest, or a rush forest, or a sugar tree forest, or a bamboo forest, or a rice field, or a sesame field, then their wisdom would not even approach one percent of the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices the Prajnaparamita, even if they meditate for one day. Not even a thousandth part, a hundred thousandth part, in number, in part, in calculation, in cause, or in simile. Shariputra, the three thousand great thousand worlds are completely filled with people like the Bhikshu Shariputra and Maudgalyayana. Let alone that. Shariputra, if the eastern world, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, were completely filled with people like the Bhikshu Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, like a reed forest, or a rush forest, or a sugar tree forest, or a bamboo forest, or a rice field, or a sesame field, then their wisdom would not even approach the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices the Prajnaparamita.
