This is the introductory statement. If the view is not good, attachment, hatred, and other afflictions are intense and immovable. Life is not long, but one can be free from darkness and possess good light. This sutra is not a place for doubt; alas, it is difficult to obtain, so I distinguish it with wisdom. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling on Vulture Peak Mountain in Rajagriha. Together with a great Sangha of five thousand monks, all of whom were Arhats, those who had exhausted the outflows, were without afflictions, had attained mastery, whose minds were very well liberated, whose wisdom was very well liberated, enlightened ones, great elephants, who had done what needed to be done, accomplished what needed to be accomplished, cast off the burden, attained their own benefit, completely exhausted the bonds of existence, and whose minds were very well liberated through perfect knowledge, having attained the supreme position in all mental mastery. Except for one person, namely the venerable Ananda, who had entered the stream. With about five hundred nuns, including the nun Sravasti's mother, Mahaprajapati Gautami, and female lay practitioners, and a great many female lay practitioners, all of whom were those who had seen the Dharma. Also with immeasurable, countless hundreds of thousands of millions of Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, all of whom had well attained dharani, well attained samadhi, practiced emptiness, had a realm of signlessness, possessed aspiration without conceptualization, had well attained forbearance of equality in all dharmas, had well attained undefiled dharani, whose supernormal knowledges were extremely un-diminished, possessed words worthy of being heard, were without pretense, without flattery, without fame, without thoughts of gain and respect, taught the Dharma without contamination, understood the profound forbearance of the Dharma, had obtained great fearlessness, had completely passed beyond all demonic activities, had severed the obscurations of karma, were skilled in distinguishing and showing through understanding the Dharma, had made vast vows from countless eons, possessed smiling faces, spoke first, were without angry expressions, were skilled in reciting verses for others, were free from timid minds, and were without timidity.

He remained in the Samadhi called the King of Samadhis, which gathers and follows by encompassing all Samadhis. Then, the Bhagavan, with thought and perfect knowledge, arose from that Samadhi and gazed with divine eyes upon all the Buddha-fields. Having gazed thus, He emitted a great array of light rays from all His body. From the two soles of His feet, which possess the thousand-spoked wheels, also arose sixty-six hundred million trillion nayuta of light rays. From the ten toes of His feet also arose sixty-six hundred million trillion nayuta of light rays. From the two ankles, the two shanks, the two knees, the two thighs, the two sides of the waist, the navel center, the two ribs, and from the auspicious conch of the great being's mark on His chest, also arose sixty-six hundred million trillion nayuta of light rays. From the ten fingers of His hands also arose sixty-six hundred million trillion nayuta of light rays. Similarly, from the two palms, the two arms, the neck, the four fangs, the forty teeth, the two eyes, the two ears, the two nostrils, the hair between the eyebrows, the crown of the head, and from the door of His mouth also arose sixty-six hundred million trillion nayuta of light rays. All those sixty-six hundred million trillion nayuta of light rays pervaded all these three-thousand great-thousand world realms with great light. Similarly, the world realms of the eastern direction, as many as the sands of the Ganges River, were pervaded with great light. Likewise, the southern, western, northern, northeastern, southeastern, southwestern, and northwestern directions, as well as the lower and upper directions, each direction pervading world realms as many as the sands of the Ganges River with great light. Whichever sentient beings saw that light, and whichever were touched by that light, all of them were certain to attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, again, all the pores of the Bhagavan's skin...
