One should abandon it on the ground. If one sees a beggar, one should not be disturbed by the beggar, and one should completely abandon the disturbed mind. Subhuti, these six dharmas are to be completely abandoned by a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in the sixth bhumi. Furthermore, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in the seventh bhumi should not engage in twenty dharmas. What are the twenty? They are as follows: One should not cling to a self. Clinging to sentient beings, clinging to life, clinging to a person, clinging to annihilation, clinging to permanence, the perception of characteristics, viewing as a cause, being manifestly attached to name and form, being manifestly attached to the aggregates, being manifestly attached to the elements, being manifestly attached to the sense bases, Abiding in the three realms, being manifestly attached to the three realms, relying on the three realms, being manifestly attached to views that rely on the Buddha, being manifestly attached to views that rely on the Dharma, being manifestly attached to views that rely on the Sangha, being manifestly attached to views that rely on morality, and becoming discouraged because all dharmas are empty, and contradicting emptiness. Subhuti, these twenty dharmas are not to be engaged in by a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in the seventh bhumi. Therefore, one should perfect these twenty dharmas. What are the twenty? One should perfect emptiness, realize the signless, know the wishless, the three spheres are completely pure, having compassion and love for all sentient beings, not despising those sentient beings, viewing all dharmas as equality and not being manifestly attached to it, fully understanding the true nature and not being arrogant because of it, knowing the unborn, teaching all dharmas in one way, clearly explaining realization, reversing views, reversing afflictions, firmly focusing on tranquility, being skilled in insight, subduing the mind, having unobstructed knowledge of everything, not being a place of attachment, and going to any field one desires and abiding there in the mandala of the Buddha's retinue, showing one's own objects. These are what a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the seventh bhumi, should fully accomplish. Furthermore, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the eighth bhumi, should fully accomplish these four dharmas. What are the four? They are: following the minds of all sentient beings; cherishing with super-knowledge; observing Buddha-fields and accomplishing those Buddha-fields as they are seen; attending to and honoring Buddhas, and examining the Buddhas' bodies as they truly are. Subhuti, these four dharmas are what a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the eighth bhumi, should fully accomplish. Furthermore, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the eighth bhumi, should fully accomplish four dharmas. What are the four? They are: knowing the superior and non-superior faculties; purifying Buddha-fields; repeatedly entering into the samadhi that is like an illusion; and accomplishing such a body, intentionally focusing, and drawing near to existence, according to how the roots of virtue of sentient beings will be accomplished. Subhuti, these four dharmas are what a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the eighth bhumi, should fully accomplish. Furthermore, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the ninth bhumi, should fully accomplish twelve dharmas. What are the twelve? They are: upholding limitless aspirations, so that however one aspires, it will be fulfilled accordingly; knowing the languages of gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas; knowing how to definitively teach with complete fearlessness; perfect entry into the womb; perfect lineage; perfect bone lineage; perfect bloodline; perfect retinue; perfect birth; perfect renunciation; perfect adornment of the Bodhi tree; and perfect accomplishment of all qualities. I, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the ninth bhumi, should completely perfect it. Shariputra, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding in the tenth bhumi is called a Tathagata. Thus he spoke. The venerable Shariputra then said to the Blessed One: "O Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva completely purify the superior intention and so forth?" The Blessed One said: "Shariputra, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who, with the mind endowed with all-aspects-knowing, correctly gathers many roots of virtue, this, Shariputra, is the complete purification of the superior intention of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Furthermore, what is the complete purification of beneficial things for a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva? A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who seeks and cultivates the wisdom of the Great Vehicle for the sake of all sentient beings, this is the complete purification of beneficial things for a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Furthermore, what is the complete purification of the equanimity of mind towards all sentient beings for a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva? With the mind endowed with all-aspects-knowing, the actualization of the four immeasurables, namely, loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, this is the complete purification of the equanimity of mind towards all sentient beings for a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Furthermore, what is the complete purification of giving for a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva? The complete giving of charity to all sentient beings without discrimination, this is what a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should completely purify as giving. Furthermore, what is the complete purification of relying on a spiritual friend for a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva? For example, those who truly encourage, assist, and greatly assist him towards all-aspects-knowing, those are the spiritual friends of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Relying on those spiritual friends, serving them, respecting them, honoring them, and esteeming them, this is the
