Completely purify giving up, and in order not to be arrogant because of this, completely purify relying on virtuous friends, in order not to be attached to all dharmas, completely purify seeking the Dharma, in order not to be attached to home, completely purify appearing again and again, in order not to be attached to the signs of excellent marks and characteristics, completely purify desire for the body of the Buddha, in order not to be attached to the distinctions of dharmas, completely purify explaining the Dharma, in order not to be attached to the existence of dharmas, completely purify eliminating the pride of arrogance, in order not to be attached to words, completely purify practicing truthful speech. Venerable Subhuti, these ten complete purifications are what a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding on the first ground should do. Venerable Subhuti, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding on the second ground should repeatedly contemplate these eight dharmas and be diligent in them. What are the eight? Like this: completely pure morality, knowing what has been done and feeling what has been done, abiding in the power of patience, having experienced great joy, completely not abandoning all sentient beings, manifesting great compassion, serving the lama with faith and respectfully relying on him with the perception of the teacher as the Buddha, diligently seeking the Paramitas. Venerable Subhuti, these eight dharmas are what a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding on the second ground should repeatedly contemplate and be diligent in. Like this: not being satisfied with hearing much, and also not being particularly attached to letters, distinguishing the giving of the Dharma without selfishness, and also not becoming arrogant because of this, accumulating roots of virtue in order to completely purify the Buddha-field, and even if completely dedicating them, not becoming arrogant because of this, not being weary of countless cycles of existence, and also not becoming arrogant because of this, abiding in knowing shame and having embarrassment, and also not becoming arrogant because of this. 是故,安住于第三地的菩萨摩诃萨所应安住者。 善现,复次,安住于第四地的菩萨摩诃萨,此十法应受持并安住,不应舍弃。 何等为十? 谓当安住于寂静处,少欲,知足,不舍弃修习之功德与资具,不舍弃学处,呵责欲妙,发起与涅槃相合之心,舍弃一切事物,无有怯懦之心,不依赖一切事物。善现,此十法是安住于第四地的菩萨摩诃萨所不应舍弃,应如实受持并安住者。 善现,复次,安住于第五地的菩萨摩诃萨,此十法应舍弃。 何等为十? 谓应舍弃亲近在家众及出家众,应舍弃对眷属吝啬,应舍弃愦闹之处,应舍弃害人之心,应舍弃赞叹自己,应舍弃诽谤他人。 应舍弃十不善业道。 应舍弃增上慢、骄慢、颠倒见、怀疑、贪欲、嗔恚、愚痴,并安住于寂静。 此十法是安住于第五地的菩萨摩诃萨所应舍弃者。 善现,复次,安住于第六地的菩萨摩诃萨,应圆满六法。 何等为六? 谓六波罗蜜多。 又应舍弃六法。 何等为六? 谓应舍弃声闻之心,应舍弃独觉之心,应舍弃恐惧之心,见乞丐时不应退缩,应舍弃退缩之心,因舍弃一切事物而不应不悦,应舍弃不悦之情。

Therefore, those that Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas abiding on the third ground should abide in. Subhuti, furthermore, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas abiding on the fourth ground should fully adopt and abide in these ten dharmas, and should not abandon them. What are the ten? Namely, abiding in solitude, having few desires, being content, not abandoning the merits of cultivation and the reduced resources, not abandoning the training, criticizing the qualities of desire, generating a mind endowed with nirvana, abandoning all possessions, having no timid mind, and having no dependence on all things. Subhuti, these ten dharmas are what Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas abiding on the fourth ground should not abandon, but should truly adopt and abide in. Subhuti, furthermore, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas abiding on the fifth ground should abandon these ten dharmas. What are the ten? Namely, one should abandon associating with householders and renunciants, one should abandon stinginess towards one's family, one should abandon places of commotion, one should abandon the mind of harming, one should abandon praising oneself, and one should abandon disparaging others. One should abandon the ten paths of non-virtue. One should abandon excessive pride, arrogance, inverted views, doubt, desire, hatred, and delusion, and abide in serenity. These ten dharmas are what Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas abiding on the fifth ground should abandon. Subhuti, furthermore, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas abiding on the sixth ground should perfect six dharmas. What are the six? Namely, the six perfections. Furthermore, one should abandon six dharmas. What are the six? Namely, one should abandon the mind of a Hearer, one should abandon the mind of a Solitary Buddha, one should abandon the mind of fear, one should not shrink back when seeing beggars, one should abandon the mind of shrinking back, and one should not be displeased by abandoning all things, one should abandon the feeling of displeasure.
