That is, what are the four? Mindfulness of the body, mindfulness of feelings, mindfulness of mind, and mindfulness of phenomena. Among these, what is mindfulness of the body? Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is diligent, possesses mindfulness, possesses clear awareness, and with mindfulness, eliminates worldly attachment and displeasure. He contemplates the body in the inner body, and also abides in a non-objective manner, not discriminating the discriminations related to the body. He contemplates the body in the outer body, and also abides in a non-objective manner, not discriminating the discriminations related to the body. He contemplates the body in the inner and outer body, and also abides in a non-objective manner, not discriminating the discriminations related to the body. Similarly, he contemplates phenomena in the inner feelings, mind, and phenomena, and also abides in a non-objective manner, not discriminating the discriminations related to phenomena. He contemplates phenomena in the outer feelings, mind, and phenomena, and also abides in a non-objective manner, not discriminating the discriminations related to phenomena. He contemplates phenomena in the inner and outer feelings, mind, and phenomena, and also abides in a non-objective manner, not discriminating the discriminations related to phenomena. Subhuti, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide contemplating the body in the inner body? Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, when walking, truly knows that he is walking. When standing, he truly knows that he is standing. When sitting, he truly knows that he is sitting. When lying down, he truly knows that he is lying down. He truly knows that the body is in a suitable or unsuitable state. Subhuti, thus, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is diligent, possesses clear awareness, possesses mindfulness, and with mindfulness, eliminates worldly attachment and displeasure. He contemplates the body in the inner body, and also abides in a non-objective manner, not discriminating the discriminations related to the body. Subhuti, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva

The great being, the Bodhisattva, dwells contemplating the body in the inner body, acting with full awareness whether going or returning. He acts with full awareness whether looking around or looking in various ways. When contracting and stretching, wearing the monastic skirt, holding the alms bowl and Dharma robes, eating, drinking, chewing, lying down, awakening from being oppressed by sleep, coming, going, standing, sitting, lying down, turning over in sleep, awakening, speaking, not speaking, and abiding correctly within, he also acts with full awareness. Subhuti, in this way, the great being, the Bodhisattva, being diligent and possessing full awareness and mindfulness, eliminates attachment and displeasure towards the world, and dwells contemplating the body in the inner body, yet without focusing on it, he does not conceptualize the aspects associated with the body. Furthermore, Subhuti, when the great being, the Bodhisattva, breathes out mindfully, he fully knows that he breathes out mindfully, just as it is. When he breathes in mindfully, he fully knows that he breathes in mindfully, just as it is. When breathing out long, he fully knows that he breathes out long, just as it is. When breathing in long, he fully knows that he breathes in long, just as it is. When breathing out short, he fully knows that he breathes out short, just as it is. When breathing in short, he fully knows that he breathes in short, just as it is. Subhuti, it is like this: for example, a potter or a skilled apprentice of a potter, when turning a wheel, fully knows that when turning it long, it is turning long, just as it is. When turning it short, he fully knows that it is turning short, just as it is. Similarly, Subhuti, when the great being, the Bodhisattva, breathes out mindfully, he fully knows that he breathes out mindfully, just as it is. When he breathes in mindfully, he mindfully
