Separating from the perfection of wisdom, separating from the perfection of meditation, separating from the perfection of diligence, separating from the perfection of patience, separating from the perfection of ethics, separating from the perfection of generosity. These are not spoken by the Thus-Gone One, not the Dharma, not the Discipline, and one should not train in these. These sutras are self-made, and should not be listened to, not be accepted, not be recited, not be read, not be fully understood, not be properly attended to, and should not be shown to others. Saying these things, Subhuti, one should know that he is a sinful friend of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Furthermore, Subhuti, a sinful friend of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this: the evil Mara, having taken on the appearance of a Buddha, comes to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva and turns them away from the six perfections, causing them to have no delight. They will say, "Son of good family, what use is it to you to cultivate the perfection of wisdom? What use is it to you to cultivate the perfection of meditation? What use is it to you to cultivate the perfection of diligence? What use is it to you to cultivate the perfection of patience? What use is it to you to cultivate the perfection of ethics? What use is it to you to cultivate the perfection of generosity?" They do not show the deeds of Mara, nor do they reveal the faults of Mara. Subhuti, one should know that this is a sinful friend of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Furthermore, Subhuti, the evil Mara, having taken on the appearance of a Buddha, goes to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva and teaches sutras that are associated with the Hearers, such as verses, prophecies, stanzas, self-utterances, causal stories, thus-gone ones, birth stories, extensive teachings, unprecedented events, metaphors, definitive statements, and explains them, distinguishes them, clarifies them, and fully shows them.
