Teaching impermanence in a way that does not fixate on it, and teaching suffering, selflessness, peace, solitude, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness in a way that does not fixate on them, and not allowing all those roots of virtue to be completely gathered into the ground of the Hearers or the Solitary Buddhas, but only into the All-Knowingness itself. Subhuti, this should be recognized as the virtuous friend of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. A Bodhisattva Mahasattva who is completely seized by that virtuous friend, upon hearing this exposition of the Perfection of Wisdom, will not be dismayed, will not be terrified, and will not become filled with terror. Subhuti asked: Blessed One, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is engaging in the Perfection of Wisdom, what is the reason that upon hearing this exposition of the Perfection of Wisdom, they become dismayed, terrified, and filled with terror, become unskillful in means, and fall into the hands of evil friends? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is engaging in the Perfection of Wisdom, they cultivate and focus on the Perfection of Wisdom without the application of mind that is endowed with All-Knowingness, and they also become conceited about the Perfection of Wisdom; they cultivate and focus on the Perfection of Concentration without the application of mind that is endowed with All-Knowingness, and they also become conceited about the Perfection of Concentration; they cultivate and focus on the Perfection of Diligence without the application of mind that is endowed with All-Knowingness, and they also become conceited about the Perfection of Diligence; they cultivate and focus on the Perfection of Patience without the application of mind that is endowed with All-Knowingness, and they also become conceited about the Perfection of Patience; they cultivate and focus on the Perfection of Morality without the application of mind that is endowed with All-Knowingness, and they also become conceited about the Perfection of Morality.

Also, that perfection of generosity is clung to with pride, and because it is not contemplated with a mind possessing all-knowingness, but cultivates and focuses on the perfection of generosity, and also clings to the perfection of generosity with pride, in that way, Subhuti, it should be understood that the bodhisattva-mahasattva's practice of the perfection of wisdom is unskillful. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a bodhisattva-mahasattva practices the perfection of wisdom, because he does not contemplate with a mind possessing all-knowingness, he contemplates form as empty of self, contemplates form as empty of other, contemplates form as empty of both self and other, contemplates form as empty of intrinsic nature of no entity up to and including. Because he does not contemplate with a mind possessing all-knowingness, he contemplates feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness as empty of self, contemplates consciousness as empty of other, contemplates consciousness as empty of both self and other, because he does not contemplate with a mind possessing all-knowingness, he contemplates consciousness as empty of intrinsic nature of no entity up to and including, and also focuses on the emptiness of intrinsic nature of no entity up to and including, and in the manner of focusing, he also clings to those emptinesses with pride.
