Pride, and with conceptualization and with analysis and so on, and samādhis and so on, birth and death, and the food and drink that become the body, along with the mindfulness of them, and the ten recollections, and the dhyānas and the formless attainments, and the ten powers of the Tathāgata and the four fearlessnesses, and the four individual perfect knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, and the doors of dhāraṇīs, and the aspect of the non-appearance of all things, and the collection of treatises composed, those teachings should be known as the collection of the path. Because all those dharmas are included in the paths of seeing and cultivation. The collection of grounds should be known to become tenfold by the divisions of purifying the bodhisattva grounds. Whatever, Subhūti, how do you say, how does a bodhisattva mahāsattva enter the Great Vehicle, from there practice the pāramitās, and ascend from ground to ground? Why is that? Because the coming and going of all dharmas are obstructed. If asked how many dharmas need to be purified? The first ground is purified in ten ways. By ten purifications, the first ground is attained. Thought and the nature of benefit, and equanimity towards sentient beings. Giving and relying on spiritual friends, and seeking the object of the true dharma, constantly the nature of renunciation, and the joy of wanting to honor the Buddha, teaching the dharma and true words, are considered to be these ten. Since these natures are unobtainable, it should be known as purification. Thus it is said. In the sūtra it is said that purifying the higher intention is the yoga of non-appearance, and purifying the beneficial things is taking the sign of non-appearance and so on. The second ground is purified in eight ways. Morality, gratitude for what has been done, and patience, great joy and great compassion, reverence and respectful listening, the eighth is diligence in giving and so on. Thus it is said. Among them, gratitude for what has been done is small.

It is more excellent than that, because it will not be wasted. The third ground can be completely purified by five aspects, namely: never being satisfied with hearing, giving the Dharma without impurity, purifying all Buddha-fields, not being weary of samsara, having a sense of shame and embarrassment, and being without arrogance. These are the five. It is said. The fourth ground can be completely purified by ten aspects, namely: dwelling in the forest, having few desires and being content, diligently practicing discipline, not abandoning the training, denouncing all desires, abandoning nirvana and all possessions, not being afraid, and having no views. As it is said in the sutra: dwelling in a solitary place, rejoicing in having few desires, and so on. Among them, having few desires means not desiring to obtain what has not been obtained. Being content means not desiring to have more than what has been obtained. The fifth ground can be completely purified by ten aspects, namely: being attached to friends and family, being in a noisy place, praising oneself and despising others, the ten paths of unwholesome actions, being arrogant and conceited, being perverse, being doubtful and enduring afflictions. By abandoning these ten, one can attain the fifth ground. It is said. Arrogance is conceit, which is the aspect of pride and so on. The sixth ground can be completely purified by six aspects, namely: giving, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, being perfectly complete. As it is said in the sutra: one should perfect the six paramitas. For disciples and solitary realizers, abandoning the mind of liking and fear, not being afraid when begging, not regretting even if one gives up all possessions, and not abandoning learning even if one is poor, one can attain the sixth ground. It is said. As it is said in the sutra: one should completely abandon the mind that desires to be a hearer, one should completely abandon the mind that desires to be a solitary realizer, one should completely abandon the mind that fears samsara, and so on. The seventh ground can be completely purified by twenty distinctions. Clinging to self and sentient beings, life and person, annihilation and permanence, signs and causes, aggregates and realms, sources
