Furthermore, the four kinds of wisdom, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, as well as the doors of Dharani, and the aspect of all being unobtainable, and the collection of treatises, these teachings should be known as the collection of the path. All these dharmas are because they are encompassed by the paths of seeing and cultivation. The collection of grounds, it should be known that it transforms into ten aspects through the classification of purifying the Bodhisattva grounds. Furthermore, Subhuti, as you said, 'How does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva enter the Great Vehicle, practice Paramitas, and ascend from ground to ground?' What is the reason for this? Because the going and coming of all dharmas are obstructed. Thus spoke the Blessed One. Where and with how many dharmas does one purify? With ten aspects, one purifies the first ground. With ten purifications, one can attain the first ground: Thinking and the reality of benefit, and equality of mind towards sentient beings, giving and relying on virtuous friends, and seeking the object of the true Dharma, the nature of constant renunciation, and the joy of wanting to honor the Buddha, teaching the Dharma and truthful words, these ten are considered (the means of purification). Because these natures are unobtainable, it should be known as purification. Thus it is said. It is said in the Sutra that the purification of superior intention is the yoga of unobtainability, the purification of beneficial things is taking the sign as unobtainable, and so on. With eight aspects, one purifies the second ground: discipline, gratitude for what has been done, and patience, great joy and great compassion, respect, respectful listening, and the eighth is diligence in giving and so on. Thus it is said. Among them, gratitude for what has been done means starting from a small place and working harder, because one does not want to waste it. With five aspects, one purifies the third ground: never being satisfied with hearing, and giving Dharma without material possessions, and purifying all Buddha-fields, and not being weary of samsara, and what is called shame and embarrassment, the nature of being without pride, these are the five aspects. Thus it is said. With ten aspects, one purifies

The fourth is complete purification, residing in forests, being content with few desires, practicing correct discipline, not abandoning the training, reproaching all desires, abandoning nirvana and all possessions, being fearless and without prejudice. As stated in the sutra: residing in secluded places, rejoicing in few desires, and so forth. Among these, having few desires means not craving for what has not been obtained. Contentment means not craving for more than what has already been obtained. The fifth ground is purified by ten aspects: severing attachment to friends and family, avoiding places of commotion, abandoning self-praise and disparagement of others, abandoning the ten non-virtuous paths of action, abandoning arrogance and conceit and distorted views, abandoning indecisiveness and tolerating afflictions. By abandoning these ten, one attains the fifth ground. Thus it is said. Arrogance is conceit, which is the manifestation of haughtiness and so on. The sixth ground is purified by six aspects: generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, perfecting them. As stated in the sutra: one should perfect the six perfections. Abandoning the mind of liking and fearing disciples and rhinoceros-like solitaries, not shrinking from begging, not regretting giving away all possessions, and not abandoning learning even in poverty, one attains the sixth ground. Thus it is said. As stated in the sutra: one should completely abandon the mind that desires to be a Hearer, one should completely abandon the mind that desires to be a Solitary Buddha, one should completely abandon the mind that fears samsara, and so forth. The seventh ground is purified by twenty distinctions: abandoning the grasping of self and sentient beings, abandoning the grasping of life and person, annihilation and permanence, abandoning the grasping of characteristics, causes, aggregates, elements, and sense bases, abandoning attachment to the three realms, abandoning the mind that is always dejected, abandoning attachment to the Three Jewels and discipline, abandoning clinging to views about them, abandoning arguing about emptiness, and the faults that contradict it. By completely severing these twenty, one attains the seventh ground. Thus it is said. Whoever completely abandons these twenty defilements attains the seventh ground. Again, it is like this.
