Samadhi is the one-pointedness of mind. Because it manifestly fabricates in order to abandon afflictions, it is fabrication. Because it exists, it is associated with it. Because it accomplishes various qualities, it is a foot. It means that it is a limb of it. What is called meditation is to make it habitual, that is, to increase familiarity. It is also the fitness of familiarity, or the familiarity becomes stable, or it is not mixed with unwholesome qualities. Meditation is also considered by the Abhidharma masters to be of two kinds: small, medium, and large, and the three kinds of results: the unfeigned result, the result in accordance with the cause, and the result of dwelling happily in the present life. Others consider it to be four kinds: the meditation of meditation is of the body, the meditation of complete purification is of discipline, the harmless is of the mind, and the meditation of complete reliance is of wisdom. Dwelling in solitude, being associated with the first dhyana, therefore he is liberated from desire and so on. What is called dwelling in detachment is being associated with the second dhyana, therefore he is liberated from discrimination and so on, and from detachment. What is called dwelling in cessation is being associated with the third dhyana, because detachment from the desire of joy is its cessation. What is called the complete accomplishment of abandonment is being associated with the fourth dhyana and the formless realms as appropriate, with knowledge as the precursor, because what should be abandoned is abandoned, it is called abandonment. Furthermore, completely destroying latent tendencies is solitude. Being free from all arising desire is detachment. Completely cutting off all bonds is cessation. Completely abandoning all appropriation is abandonment. Furthermore, the Abhidharma masters consider that because of solitude, it is solitude from the realms. Because of detachment, it is detachment from the desire of afflictions. Because of cessation, it is the desire for action. Because of abandonment, it is the abandonment of things, that is, all words indicate nirvana, this is how the Abhidharma masters explain it. Abandoning the previous support by the power of relying on the object is.

The reason for establishing abandonment is explained by the venerable Sangye Shenyen in the section on the aspects of enlightenment. Here, the four antidotes to the four types of conceptualization are the path of seeing. It should be understood that those conceptualizations and dwelling in solitude, etc., should be applied in order, as the aspects of enlightenment are completely included in the path of seeing. Among them, the first antidote to the conceptualization of the apprehended is solitude, because it distinguishes the aspects to be abandoned from the contaminated aspects of the pure side. The second antidote to the conceptualization of the apprehended is detachment from desire, because the desire for virtuous dharmas is detachment from desire itself. The first antidote to the conceptualization of the apprehender is cessation, because it completely ceases and abandons all clinging to self, autonomy, etc., which is the meaning. The second antidote to the conceptualization of the apprehender is complete abandonment, because it abandons the various characteristics imputed to self and the aggregates, etc., by fully knowing them as they are. Similarly, the five, such as faith, are faculties because of their meaning of being able to dominate. These five are powers because of their meaning of being invincible. Mindfulness, discrimination of dharmas, diligence, pliancy, samadhi, and equanimity are branches of enlightenment because they have become branches of the path of seeing. Right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right samadhi, the eightfold noble path, are the path because they lead to the city of nirvana. The eleven knowledges that know according to the sound, the faculties such as knowing everything without knowing, and those with conceptualization, with investigation, etc., and the samadhis, birth and death, and the remembrance of food and drink that become the body, and the ten recollections, the dhyanas and the formless attainments, and so on.
