This is the commentary. Explanation of the characteristics of the non-retrogression Sangha of the Bodhisattva's training. However, if it is said: Is it the Sangha of the Hearers? Or the Sangha of the Bodhisattvas? Now, it should be known that these are the Sangha of the Hearers. It should be known that the four pairs of individuals are distinguished by the difference between the fruit of the path and the path of the fruit. In order to show that it is the Sangha of the Bodhisattvas, it is assumed that all aspects are perfectly realized. Starting from the characteristic of non-retrogression, in order to show the characteristic of each individual's own nature, it is shown that they are different entities. As it is said: "Bhagavan, how should I know what is non-retrogression and the characteristic of non-retrogression?" This is a complete request for the reason for understanding oneself and others. From the words of the venerable Subhuti, starting from "the stage of an ordinary person," up to "one should not look at what others have done or not done," the characteristics of that are spoken. Taking non-retrogression as the reason for understanding others, it should also be known that the Sangha of the Bodhisattvas becomes three types. Namely, the stage of the path of accumulation, which gathers the equipment for definite emergence, the stage of the path of seeing, which gathers forbearance and wisdom, and the stage of the path of meditation, which possesses continuity. That is, from the limb of ascertainment onwards, on the grounds of seeing and habituation, whichever Bodhisattvas abide, they are the assembly of non-retrogression here. It should be known that this is the meaning of Sangha. The twenty signs of turning away from form and so on are the characteristics of this abiding in the limb of ascertainment. What is meant by "Bhagavan, what are these aspects?" What is gathered by realization is called a sign. One's own support, what is indicated, is called a mark. What is fully enjoyed by that is an aspect. Thus, it should be known that the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is non-retrogressing. That is, he has entered in order to make others realize. What are the twenty signs? That is, by turning away from form and so on, whatever Subhuti, all dharmas

It is shown that there is no form, no sign, and no characteristic. Because the connection between what is felt and the feeler is severed, there is no turning back from form, etc., up to perfect enlightenment, which is itself non-regression. Why is that? Because form and other phenomena do not have their own nature existing. Furthermore, because there is no doubt, one does not bow to other gods, nor does one think of offering flowers, etc. Moreover, one will not grasp the eight unfree states and the body of a woman, and one's self also abides perfectly in the path of the ten virtuous actions, and one also causes others to abide therein, which is praising him. One rejoices in accordance. One teaches the six perfections to all sentient beings, and when practicing, one gives the Dharma of sutras, etc., and in order to make all sentient beings fully manifest their desires, one dedicates it to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Because one does not see all dharmas, one has no hesitation, doubt, or double-mindedness towards the profound Dharma, and because one does not desire ultimate power from other paths besides that, one does not hesitate. The opposite of what is similar to the path is double-mindedness. Because the virtuous Dharma of lineage does not increase in various ways, one doubts because of hesitation. Possessing the actions of loving body, speech, and mind, and the five obscurations and all predispositions do not exist at all times, which is ignorance and the predispositions included in views. Bodhisattvas are not included in desire and outflows of existence because they deliberately take rebirth. The mindfulness of actions such as going and coming abides closely, and one possesses pure conduct and has few illnesses. Because the Dharma garments and enjoyments are not defiled, it is a state belonging to warmth. Because the root of virtue is manifestly superior to all the worlds, there are no eighty thousand kinds of worms on the body, and because the root of virtue is completely pure and free from mental deceit, one has transcended the grounds of the Hearers and others, and goes higher.
